SIAP - ESPN predicts Harbaugh back to the NFL by 2021

Submitted by poseidon7902 on

I mean it's an off the wall article anyway, but they are sticking with the thought that the Dolphins will need a new coach and Harbaugh will go for it.

also ESPN's main impetus is Stephen Ross poaching him to coach for Miami.

they do know Stephen Ross is the biggest benefactor in the history of UofM, right?

If he actually wins a natty then why on earth would we want to let him go?? THAT'S the time to start talks of a lifetime contract.

You wait as long as we have to FINALLY get a championship caliber coach to then simply let him walk after one natty. You lock that down as quickly as possible for as long as possible.

"Move along."

"Move along...move along."

Have to say, when I saw this, I wasn't as angry as I was, say, two years ago when reporters were saying he wouldn't last in college. Not that I want him to leave - I don't - but if that were to happen, I think we have a better perspective of what we'd be losing.

I dont understand why the fan base has some sort of knee-jerk issue with predictions like this. If Harbaugh leave in 3 years, he will have been immensely successful here before that. He's not going to leave before he has serious success, but he probably is going to leave. According to his standards, he didnt get it done in the NFL. I can see him going to get it done in the NFL after getting it done in AA. Not only do I not have not problem with that, I kind of expect it. It's what super-driven people like him do.

I believe I've heard Harbaugh state: "Play football as long as you can. Coach as long as you can. Die."

I think he's here to stay as long as he feels welcome. I believe he's genuinely dedicated to his wife and kids and thinks Ann Arbor is the perfect place for all of them. His youngest won't graduate for 17 more years.

ESPN has finally mastered "reduce, reuse, recycle". If you reduce your staff until no one of quality is left, reuse the same tired concepts and recycle the narratives, you just might get to a point where the only person watching your network is the person out there who enjoys Stephen A. Smith.

Only way he goes back to the NFL is if he gets fired at Michigan. And that only happens if we don’t have another 10 win season by 2020 IMO

The bright side: Harbaugh  to the NFL by 2021 ( or any other arbitrary year / guess ) will only mean one thing - Michigan has accomplished several championship goals.

Im starting to think Ohio State must be paying ESPN to churn out these articles every month as a negative recruiting tool. In no world does it make sense that Harbaugh would be the top candidate for any NFL job when there are at least a dozen college coaches who have outperformed him in the last 3 years.

I admit I’m a homer, but if he wanted to go he would’ve left by now. The Bears, Colts, Giants, Raiders, and Jets jobs all came open this season, all “high profile” jobs in the league, and based on what we can see he turned them down.

It's a stupid article with a bunch of "throw some shit at the wall and see what sticks" types of predictions.  They throw out 20 or so predictions - with a 3-year timeline - and some of them are bound to come true.  None of the predictions are particularly crazy, just somewhat unlikely (the Browns won't make the playoffs, the Pats won't win the AFC, Harbaugh to the NFL, etc.).  Because of that, some will inevitably come true.

But, the article could have equally been titled 25 random NFL hot takes and the name would have been equally descriptive.  I know that many on here get worked up about these types of things, but honestly, if you go to ESPN, this is the type of content that you get.  Much of the "mainstream media" (non-political use of the term - just big box media) fills their web pages with these types of puff pieces and hot takes that are aimed at garnering clicks and nothing more.  If you want more, you need to find places like MGoBlog (2.0), or some other sites aimed at more serious fans.

And this is why sports media can suck.  Instead of holding a flame to institutional failures like MSU and OSU, someone is allowed to put out unverified click bait based on pure speculation because they know Jimmy brings an audience.  Meanwhile, not even systemic abuse can distract anyone from "win at any cost" morality, which at MSU is just "beat Michigan" morality.  Criminy......

Michigan will go 8-4 this season and I think Harbaugh leaves after the 2019 season with an 0-5 record vs OSU. He will never succeed at Michigan. He is way better suited for the NFL.

I think Michigan will go 5 - 7 this year (at Notre Dame, at Northwestern, at Michigan State, at Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State, Wisconsin).  No quarterback and no offensive line, plus a brutal schedule.

At that point, I would think Harbaugh would have to consider NFL options and call his Michigan experience a complete failure.

Who knows. I really feel like he’s home but his competitive side may bite for a new challenge. Especially with his brother winning Super Bowls (against him too). He is a very competitive person, especially with family. That’s my only concern.

Well...I guess.......maybe........I mean the NCAA would shut college football down the second they thought they might be liable for any long term health complications.......and he would be forced to find gainful employment somewhere.

That's all I got.

His Dudeness

I wouldn't be shocked by it. He hasn't exactly set the college football world on fire here. I hope he stays, but if he leaves the world will continue to spin.
