Semi-OT: Per Doc Saturday - Jadeveon Clowney's Take on Saban....

Submitted by DamnYankee on

All hail Coach Napoleon. Mega recruit Jadeveon Clowney, now officially a Gamecock after signing withSouth Carolina on Monday, opened up to Fox Sports' Thayer Evans on the spectacle of his recruitment – in particular, the day Rock Hill, SC, flipped its wig for Alabama coach Nick Saban's visit to recruit Clowney last December. Jadeveon was less impressed: “I don’t see no big deal like everybody else,” he said. "They'd say, 'He's the king of all of football.' The guy ain't nothing but 5-5. He's a short guy. Everybody’s going crazy on Nick Saban." And after the King of All Football arrived at the Clowney home? "Nick Saban's going to take over and talk," Clowney said. "He talked the whole time he was there. I was dozing off. He can talk. A lot. He talked for a whole straight hour." But at the end of the day, Mama Clowney still had toveto Alabama herself because of the distance from home. [FoxSports]

You gotta love it when an 18-year-old belittles an elite head coach because of his height and talking too much.

I hate Saban, but somebody at some point should have taught Clowney to shut his mouth.

Agreed. This is a product of the asinine recruiting world we live in.

I won't be surprised if he ends up in junior college next year. He's apparently right on the border with his transcripts, test scores etc.

I wonder if Steve Spurrier just sat quietly and listend to the Clowneys? Or if he did a more entertaining song and dance routine for the Clowney clan? They're an insane posse those Clowneys.

If Clowney was going here, I think a lot of people would see him as "telling it like it is" about "the evil Satan."  Ringtones of the old song "You Talk Too Much" would spike just before the Michigan/Alabama game in 2012.

I know it's against "the code" for a player to trash-talk about a coach, but it was really funny and the coach in question deserves it.  Also, anything that might help, even an iota, to derail Saban's unstoppable, oversigning, recruiting juggernaut is good for college football.

Anything that makes recruits laugh at Saban is a good thing.  Imagine if, after every in-home visit, elite recruits were emailing or texting to their buddies, "Damn, that Clowney was right.  Saban does talk too much."  It probably would have helped if Demetrius Hart had felt that way, for example.

Just like Urban Meyer's blanket indictment of the SEC is good for teams like Michigan that play it straight, these comments are good for all schools that recruit against Saban for any player.

Spielman walked into Bo's office with a sleeveless flannel, a trucker hat on backwards, and a chew in his mouth.  Disrepect for football coaches has been going on since the dawn of the pigskin.

I'm fine with him spouting off about Saban.

1) nobody will remember it in about 72 hours

2) should the media remember the next time SC plays Bama, it should make for some mildly entertaining tv.

Judge Smails: Ty, what did you shoot today?

Ty Webb: Oh, Judge, I don't keep score.

Judge Smails: Then how do you measure yourself with other golfers?

Ty Webb: By height.
