Season Ticket Thoughts

Submitted by MLaw06 on

During our disappointing season, throngs of MGoBloggers noted that they were cancelling their football season tickets.  Many cited price as their primary concern (and their annoyance with all things that came from David Brandon and Hunter Lochman), but ultimately, I assume that most were tired of losing and watching "bad" football.

Given that expectations are back on the up and up, how many of you are signing back up for season tickets and/or renewing your season tickets?  Are any of you increasing the number of tickets that you will buy or going to higher PSD tiers as well?

Will increased demand for tickets finally turn around the recent trend of bargain basement prices for seats on the Stubhub secondary market?

I'm sure demand will be higher this year. However, I still think Michigan even with Harbaugh and all of college football is in trouble if prices keep climbing the way they have been.

I waited to see who we hired. If we hired a Schiano or a Addazio I probably would have renewed this year only cause of the schedule but would have been reluctant after this season if we looked to be stuck in mediocrity. Thankfully we have till the end of this month for PSD's!

I waited until the Presser to renew.  I probably would have renewed anyway due to the schedule.

Now I will try to get 2 more in the end zone as an investment.  Last year, I was offered 2 in the end zone because I bought a 3 game pack.  Hopefully the AD continues and offers additional tix to Season Tix Holders first.

I sent in my PSD early but, only because of the schedule.  If a douche bag would have been hired I would have not renewed the following year with another bad home schedule.  The even years suck now that ohio and michigan state (they don't deserve capital letters) are home the same year.

I did not renew last year because of the schedule and was tight on money. Glad I didn't when tickets were going no for $13 on stub hub. Getting my name on the interest list this year and hope my priority points help me get season tickets again. The home opener is $113 on stub hub right now. Season tickets are actually cheaper at $75 per game.

Yes, you can sell your tickets ahead of receiving them.  You just need to deliver your tickets by X date (the delivery date is usually a few days prior to the game date).  If you are a buyer, you can see what date the expected delivery is (i.e., in case you want them in hand earlier).

We had debated getting rid of ours. The bad football was certainly a factor, but the price relative to the market was the biggest factor. Unless you are really tied to your exact seat there is very little tangible benefit to paying more than twice market value. We never intended to stop going, just to stop getting gouged.

With Harbaugh and the improved schedule, I think it's reasonable to say the market will change, so we are sticking with them this year.

Is this is the first year I've given to the PSD since graduating in 2011. I would've given sooner but I lived in WI for 2.5 years, and I'm crossing my fingers for the opportunity to buy tickets this year.

Did not renew last year and have not regretted it. Even with Harbaugh coming tickets are overpriced with psl's donations and terrible scheduling. Much cheaper and less hassle to cherry pick games that I really want to goto.

The schedule and the team's record was a major factor in the low resale value for tickets. The reality is that this team never gave up. I ended up at 3 home games and 3 road games - although they are all road games for me as I don't live in Michigan. I loved how the team never stopped battling. Made me proud as an alum.

As for resale value - you are probably always going to get end zone seats in the high rows for less than face value - for most games. Tickets near mid-field are usually going to be in high demand. Outside of the Maryland game, I made money on all the tickets I didn't use.

As for the PSD and renewing my ticket - I would never even dream of not renewing. It's my school.

The one thing I really don't have a good guess about is student attendance. Seems like even schools that have top winning programs currently are having issues with attendance. The students have legit gripes - expensive food, poor cell connections, Hi-def TVs at home. Not sure I can relate as I haven't been to college since the 90s. I hope this is not an issue moving forward.

For me the worst part of the season is never knowing what times the games are going to be played. It's really hard to make travel plans in advance when they don't the time of some of these games until a week or two before.

Agree 100%. Only games we missed this year were Rutgers and Northwestern. Cell phone reception is 10000 times better now, but we have AT&T.

Students will be very interesting this year. Based on Michigan Daily twitter, they seem excited :)

Not knowing times is the worst, followed by too many 3:30 games in a close second. Can't wait until my son can make it through all the games! 3:30 games are the worst for him now (he'll be 6.5 years old when the season starts).

Renewed while waiting for the presser!  There really wasn't any doubt that I would renew them regardless of who they hired.  I'm looking to add a couple more seats in the end zone if possible.  Hopefully the current season ticket holders get a chance before the guys who gave up their seats during the rough times.  It was tough for me last year living out of state and not even being able to sell my tickets for the games I could not attend.  I know the product on the field is going to be vastly improved with Jim Harbaugh and staff!  Looking forward to fall!  Go Blue!

I paid the $150 to be eligible for season tickets but will see what packages they have before making a decision. My main objective is OSU tickets. I'm guessing we only go to two or three games so full season tickets aren't a big priority but I could see a scenario where we buy the full season, go to a few more games and sell/give away remaining tickets.

I'm trying to get back in. I had season tickets from 2007-2011, but had to drop them due to a number of reasons. Paid $200 on NYE to hopefully improve my points. I'm not an Alumnus, let alone a Letterwinner so I don't get help there. Looking forward to the drive from SE PA again for Fall football Saturdays. *Fingers crossed*

Just yesterday, I was putting some thoughts into Season Tickets. I PSD'd my annual payment, a day after harbaugh was announced, but there was no doubt, no matter what happened, that I was going to renew. Can't sacrifice tickets that have been in the family for 50+ years. Even if I only make a couple games a  year, Ann Arbor remains a part of my life, and will remain a part of my family's, for generations after mine.  Now, with that said, I just tweeted yesterday: "hey @umich, how about a stat on 2015 @umichfootball ticket renewels after @coachjim4UM hire."  Not suprisingly, crickets.   I"m curious to see how many people instantly paid their donation, after the Harbaugh hire.
