SB Wins 2 today; Avenges Yesterday's Loss

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The SB Team came back strong today with 2 convincing victories against C. Arkansas and ULL.  We took one on the chin yesterday against ULL.

In the first game against C. Arkansas, we won 7-0 on the strength of the Long Ball from Silo and Romo.  The combo account for 5 of the 7 RBIs.  Lauren Sweet got hot by going 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Freshmen Pitcher Megan Besta proved that she is deserving of FOY honors by throwing a 1 hitter..  She had 13 Ks with only 1 BB.  What a wonderful game for Megan on the biggest stage.

In the second game, we took ULL in Mercy-Rule Fashtion 15-1.  The offense was led by Romo again.  He went deep, hard and long with the bases loaded.  She ended the game 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.  Colie went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.  Lauren Sweet continued playing hot today by going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored.

Haylie was the starting and winning pitcher.  She allowed 1 run (ER) off 5 hits.  She struck out 5 and walked 1.

This puts us at 7-2 with our 2 losses from #3 and #20 ranked teams.  The Florida Loss will stick in our craw for a while until we get back home and into the Big Ten Season and another likely Big Ten Championship.

Actually, Michigan is 6-2 at the moment.

Not so bummed about an 8-6 loss to the #20 ranked team in their own park after beating them today in the same place by 14.

Baseball had two, heartbreaking losses yesterday. Both losing leads late and ultimately losing both in the 10th inning. They led Texas State 7-2 at one point and TSU scored 6 unanswered.

a little shaky as well.  They did not post the box scores until much later.  I always try to catch the official line as compared to my score-keeping just to make sure I have the stat correct.

The official box score did not get published until an hour or so after the game.  Maybe they were not expecting a beat-down of Wolverine Proportions.

Great bounce back game.  The offense coming through in spades is no huge surprise, although 15 runs is a lot even for us.  What really impresses, though, is the defense.  ULL is a good softball team, and to hold them to one run (even in a shortened game) in their park is no mean feat.  While Central Arkansas is not at that same level, Betsa certainly did everything asked of her and then some, with a dominant performance.  Hopefully we see a few more defensive dominations like that going forward.
