Since the link mentions him, here are some Tranquill highlights for the board's education. His other offers include Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Indiana, Miami (OH), Minnesota, Purdue, Toledo and Western Michigan. These are courtesy of Hudl....

But man, he looks pretty impressive to me, the way he shakes off blockers and makes the tackle everytime was damn impressive.

To me, he seems like an ideal safety canditate in the Kovacs mold except more athletic seemingly, I hope that is good competition he's playing against, because if so, I want guys on defense who have a nose for the ball, the kid looked like the best player on the field in every play.

That kid looks like a linebacker all the way. I would not be in favor of getting a safety who moves like that. Mattison has said that he wants safeties who are interchangeable and can play both positions, and you would have to hide this kid just like he tried to hide Kovacs in coverage. Perhaps even more so.

Indiana is not known for its football. Carroll is a big high school, but the talent he's playing against is mediocre. I wouldn't be overly impressed by the fact that he seems to be the best athlete on the field.

It's gotta be Crawford. He was visiting Miami this weekend and unless that visit blew him away he should commit sometime this week

There's Crawford but I thought he was going to visit Miami (YTM) first. I thought maybe one or two more who were borderline lock/#JPTTA status

Something tells me the commit really didn't make a difference. Just a position in his top 2-3. He goin to Clemson

And people on 247 seem to think it's probably talking about Dwight Williams too. Buckle?

I posted about this above here. we knew he probably wasnt coming here though, the problem with him going to celmson is that Campbell is seemingly more interested them now. With a teammate and fellow wide receiver most likely headed there it could really draw him there in the long run

Yeah it is just talk. He wasn't planning on coming here anyways. UCF :) the thing I've learned is it is better to take a kid from camp who wants to be here than a longshot who doesn't. No regrets. I truly believe the coaches can sense when someone has lost interest and they know when to go in a different direction.

But Webb's story is about the 2014 class, linebacker specifically. Sounds like Dwight Williams. I wonder if he's going to make the BBQ. He definitely should.

rumor was we were going to take 4 receivers. either that was not true, or scott wasn't coming our way anyway. or the staff sees this tweet and calls him to say we will still take you. williams or westphal is my guess

I'm going to go with Noah Furbush. Sam mentioned Tranquill but said he is not on commit watch. I am taking that as a hint that a LB is about to commit. We are in on Furbush, Swain, and Williams. Furbush is the only one who has visited, so I'm guessing it is him.

Furbush would be the most reasonable from the standpoint that he is the only one of the three who has visited. However, I think the staff is targeting a guy who would play the WILL spot as they have Ferns (MIKE) and Winovich (SAM) already in the fold. Furbush is not likely to project to the WILL. In other words...I have no idea who it might be.

I wouldn't expect Furbush to end up in this class now either, since he's more of a WDE than a WLB. He could start off at SAM but both Ferns and Winovich can already. I'm hoping for Williams and then he and Peppers can help swing Jackson and/or Smith in.

The coaches recently offered Jimmy Swain (a SAM prospect) and really wanted Darrion Owens (a SAM prospect). I think they would take Dwight Williams (a WILL prospect) if he wanted to commit, but they really seem to want a SAM. Tranquill also appears to be a SAM prospect.

Well, I guess my understanding of what positions these guys project to is WAY off. I honestly thought all of those guys were more likely to be WLB's. Disregard anything I have said in this thread...as I'm sure most posters have already done.

I thought SAMs were kind of like mini-DE's in this defense, meaning that they would need to be pretty tall (6'3" minimum) and heavy (240+ lbs) with good enough speed to keep contain at the edge and rush the passer. I sort of envisioned Shawn Crable as the ultimate SAM. Am I comepletely off in this line of thinking?

Magnus

Crable was an exceptional athlete, but most SAMs aren't going to be 6'5" like he was. The three guys who have played SAM at Michigan are 6'3" (Beyer, Gordon, Ryan). The coaches just moved the 6'2" Allen Gant there and recruited the 6'4" Chase Winovich, so right around 6'3" is pretty accurate. Tranquill and Swain are both 6'2" so they're pretty close to that mark.

As Brown just droped to Va my guess is its Hand, saying to himself...."what am I waiting for?"

I read what he said in Sam's article and the kid said Michigan offered a kid at MY POSITION and he is going to commit soon. If not etc..

but I have a feeling that Drue and the Wolverines are close to offering and accepting the very same day.  Just a gut feeling. Not often you get a kid that could be very good at two different positions, although Lord knows we've tried it far too often lately.
