...by all accounts Brady is a good guy. His players love him. He got the job because past colleagues must've loved him too. I have a friend whose husband coaches here in San Diego and knows Brady quite well and they can't say enough good things about the man.

That being said, he and his assistants did not have a successful tenure in Ann Arbor. I hope, much as is the case with RichRod, that Brady finds a great location and meets with much success. If letting him go to pursue another head coach can ultimately become a win-win for Michigan and Brady Hoke, I'd be extremely happy. Like you, I certainly don't wish him ill at all...

I don't think that word means what you think it means. My feelings on Hoke are a lot more dickish than yours. Here goes; I refuse to feel sorry for anyone who makes over $4 million per year to suck at his job. Every week he found new ways to fuck up. If he actually loved this program and the players as much as he says he does, he should've voluntarily resigned weeks ago. I'll be glad to see him go

Oh yeah...most definitely a lot more dickish.

And, a somewhat serious question to the posters who keep citing his salary as a reason for these constant expressions of schadenfreude...at what compensation level does a person lose the ability to generate empathy from you? Is it $1 million? Less? Or does anyone, down to minimum wage level Walmart employees, harsh your emotions if they don't perform to your judgment of competence?

This is not an argument to keep Brady...this is simply amazement at the level of gleeful dancing on his being-dug-as-we-type grave.

I said flat out that my opinion on this was dickish; I'm not denying that. I'm just really sick of Hoke's bumbling incompetence. Plus, he's made over $16 million while coaching here. On top of that, it's not so much that I'm happy the guy is being fired, I'm more happy about the fact that we're going to have a new coach. If his contract was up and just wasn't renewed, I'd be just as happy. I'm Not explaining it very well, but I'm glad for the program that we'll have a better coach, not just that he will be fired.
To answer your bigger question, I guess I'd say somewhere around $1 million. You can live a very comfortable life on $100k pre year, and that would give someone 10 years to find another job or figure out another way to make a living.

So, I haven't hardly followed recruiting in the last couple months, especially in the last month after things totally cratered. I'm curious about the impact on recruiting. I'm assuming that anyone who has stuck it out this far (in terms of commitment to Michigan) is committed to the University, not to anyone on the coaching staff, least of all Hoke. But I do have a couple questions:

First Is there anyone remaining committed to Michigan who would leave because the coaching staff was let go?

Second, in the event that someone like Harbaugh or Miles becomes our next coach, are there any decommitments who would recommit? Are there any commitments to other schools who would consider flipping to Michigan? I'd love to see Michigan move quickly, so that a new coaching staff is on board, and has the opportunity to gain some solid recruits in the month of January.

Nothing final until they sign on the dotted line and fax it in on signing day.

But all of LSU's verbals right now are from LA, FL, TX, MS, and a 2 star OL from Georgia, so I'm not seeing any prime targets for him to convince to follow him.

If he'd found some midwest guys to verbal to LSU, I'd be hoping for the same thing I think you are.

I'm sure you could go through the guys and see where they'd taken their official visits.  Maybe some of them took officials to WVU, MSU, OSU or some northern schools to at least give the impression they could come up to UM should Miles get the job.

How has this not made the front page, yet?  I don't mean this in a remotely critical way, but is something going on that Brian has seriously scaled back his coverage of the whole CC thing?  I would have figured that he would have something directly on the cc - best speculation on timing, candidates, rumblings, etc. after the game, but we haven't heard much in the past week or so.

Is it possible that Brian knows more than he is able to say?

...have known for weeks that the job's been offered to Jim Harbaugh and he's accepted. They've known that Hoke is out. Hackett was pretty clear about that in his public statements before the Maryland game for those able to read between the lines. (And Hoke listed his house for sale last week--you can look it up.) Respectable and semi-respectable media types and public figures are keeping quiet because they don't want to burn their confidential sources and they don't want to mess up the JH hire and then have egg on their face if the deal falls through. Didn't some guy let the cat out of the bag a couple weeks ago and then had to try to get it back in there? I'm sure Tyrone (the next RBs coach?) was pretty annoyed with that guy. Some are even putting out smoke screens to make people think JH is not the guy. The timing has to be right vis-a-vis the 49ers situation. This post is intended for those interested in information, not speculation. I can pass this along because I'm just an anonymous guy on a blog who'd like to see folks R-E-L-A-X and I'm not going to give you my source. Just a guy who should stop drinking and go to bed (me, not my source). But pretty soon we'll all be singing "Happy days are here again..."

Talent has never been the Issue. Michigan can recruit itself. Also, we'll get a good new coach 'righting the ship' bump as usual.

Lets focus on the coaching list. Recruits...meh

I've been reading a ton of comments on all the "cc" stuff and sweet bearded baby Jesus, you guys are so impatient. First, people are complaining because its been too long already and Hoke hasn't been fired yet, now it's people pre-complaining about having the new coach hired the moment he is fired. Relax people, all in good time.

I saw this headline on Deadspin and nearly fainted. Thankfully it appears to be a sick, cruel joke on us all. Damn you Deadspin. Damn you to hell.

He Just Heard Michigan's Not Going to Fire Brady Hoke

I'm not celebrating until I know who we're getting as a replacement.

Until then, it's just same-old, same-old, to me.

Just wish they'd hurry up and get moving on this.  Pelini had a winning record and Nebraska's been less ass-grabby about the-decision-that-NEEDED-to-be-made than Michigan.

The odds of UM canning RR and getting a better HC were slim.  Hence, Brady Hoke.

I just don't see that happening here, or at least see the odds being that this could happen.

Even as we bicker about who we'd like to see assuming the Harbaughs say no, whether it be Miles, Jones, Schiano, Pelini, Stoops, Stoops, McElwain, Calhoun, Herman, Martin, etc. with whom we find flaws, I think it's safe to say that ALL would be better head coaches at Michigan than the guy they're replacing.

How?  We're fans on a message board.  How would you propose I dig a little deeper?  Call Harbaugh?  Ask a reporter to ask him a question for me?

And you  misread my point.

And I typed "assuming the Harbaughs aren't coming" to make my point that any of the secondary level options are better than Hoke.

I guess I should've said that a little differently. Given what I've seen over the course of the past 3 years, I believe that Hoke is the worst coach in the Big Ten and among the worst in FBS. I don't watch other teams as frequently as I watch Michigan, but I do watch a lot of college football. Other teams simply don't send 10 guys out to cover punts, or insist on running a system their players aren't equipped to handle, or waste timeouts and generally fuck up clock management the way Hoke consistently does.
So is it theoretically possible we hire a coach who does worse than Hoke? I guess so, but I wouldn't count on it.

And yet he sent out 10 guys on back to back plays, didn't notice his quarterback reeling from a blatant helmet-to-helmet hit, and couldn't manage the clock to save his life. Those aren't things that you need to be a Saban-level coach to avoid, you just have to not be a complete moron

Today at his presser, Harbaugh poked fun at his management -- saying he "won't be apologizing" for his team's performance.

Harbaugh also for the first time in a while didn't wear his SF 49ers cap to his presser.

Harbaugh did ask if anyone at the presser happened to have handy a Trip Tik from SF to Detroit area.

OK, only 2 of those 3 things are true, and most of you don't know what the 3d one is (damn you, smartphones).

So, while 3 of 3 would have cinched the deal for me, I'll say 2 of the 3 is a near certainty!!!!! Right???? Please??? Ohdeargawwwdnsweetbabeegeezusplease????
