My father is a huge Michigan fan who actually graduated from Rutgers and his younger brother graduated from Michigan Law.  Neither one of them is the least bit excited about this move.  I can't say I feel any better about it than they do.  It's like we've just added Minnesota & Indiana again.  I am, however, looking forward to adding Georgia Tech & Notre Dame.

I live in NJ now, unfortunately, and I hate the idea that the conference is getting weaker with these additions. However...Michigan is a highly respected school out here (and everywhere else) and having a Big Ten presence in NJ and MD will help us get kids from the top Prep schools in the country (Don Bosco, Gilman, Good Counsel, St. Peter's, etc.) that are already interested in us. It may hurt our conference initially, but I think it will end up helping Michigan recruiting in the long run.

They keep talking about division realignment and how you can't do both geography and competitive balance, but I don't see why not.

East:

Maryland

Rutgers

PSU

Ohio

Michigan

IU

Purdue

West:

MSU

Illinois

Northwestern

Iowa

Nebraska

Winsconsin

Minnesota

UM/OSU/PSU on one side, sure, but the other 4 teams are not as good at football. In the west you have the twin brothers of Nebraska and Wisky that have to fight through the up and down teams like MSU, NW, and Iowa. Plus, everyone's major rivalry is preserved except State's (and I guess Illinois' and Iowa's) game with us. And I won't lose much sleep over that. The worst part of this is only playing for the Jug twice every six years or so.
