Rust's EVENTUAL Future in Columbus?

Submitted by the_big_house 500th on
As a fan of Michigan hockey I am glad to see him going to the pros but not by going to Columbus. I've been to 75 Jackets games and trust me when I say that players with skill, talent and good ability end up becoming nothing here. The only good move that Columbus has made since entry into the league was getting Rick Nash. Can Matt Rust help or will he leave or possibly even be traded as soon as the season starts? I just feel like his potential will be wasted in Columbus. http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/matt_rust [mod note: there is no indication or reason to believe Rust will be heading to Columbus anytime soon and is expected to stay with UM all four years until he or someone else in the know says otherwise]

He's better off now that Hitchcock is gone (which should temper your evaluation of all Columbus prospects), but it'll be a long road for him to make it to the NHL, if he does at all. The only thing that might get him to the NHL with Columbus is Columbus' relative lack of depth at center. The problem is that he projects as a 3rd-4th liner and his size will probably hold him back. It'll be interesting to see what happens, though.

the_big_house 500th's march 15, 2011 post: As a fan of the Blue Jackets, it pains me to say it but they have to get rid of Nash. They are just too good to have him on the roster and its a waist of a spot.

you basically just make posts that involve you taking a huge verbal shit, translating it into binary code, posting it on the board and seeing what sticks. it's 9 times out of 10 reactionary bs to the latest sporting event and involves little to no level-headed analysis. instead it's just "here's what we all know OMG I HATES IT I GETS SO ANGREEEEE [sic]." it comes off as attention whoring because you make sure to post your own thread about it instead of discussing it in an existing thread when the subject matter is reactionary. when it's you discussing something with zero timeliness and is just you posting what popped into your head while you were mowing the lawn, it gets the carry over resentment from your last spazz out. i seem to remember you having a lot of insightful things to say about... 6 months ago. now you just get angry when people don't care what you have to say.

Next to OMG shirtless I fucking hate you more than anyone on this board. You’re probably just some ex father who lost his wife in kids in a messy divorce case and to shield yourself from your anger and you spit at other people just to make yourself feel better. You probably sit at home, contribute nothing to society except sit on your fat fucking ass, eating cheetos and masturbating to kiddie porn or whatever the hell you do that involves non physical activity. You like to bitch about how other people say things you don't want to hear so you post their flaws or grammatical errors to make yourself feel like SUPERMAN! I'm sure you’re just like a lot of others on this site, out of shape, no wife or girlfriend, the only pussy you get is from your pocket pussy or right hand, left hand if you’re in the mood for something more adventurous. Then after your done you go after others with a couple of flaws and point out how "anti-English" they are by telling the world "look at me and my superior intellect! None are smarter." You probably live in some fucking hick town in Louisiana that I take it is probably not even there anymore (like I give a shit. Not my problem) you honestly think I give a fuck about what you say pal? Do you? Your whole family could be dead and even you and I still wouldn't care. Same goes for OMG shirtless. So you can go on living the way you do shitting and spitting on others but come one day you'll receive your debt that's due. And it won't be me it will be someone much more hateful of you and the way you are. Think I care about what you or others think? No, not really like I said you could be stiff and in the grave and I wouldn't give a shit. So with that said I'm going to continue to support my teams, Michigan athletics, Red Wings hockey and Packers football and one nobody not even a lazy, pathetic piece of shit like you is going to change that. Go Blue and good day. P.S. look at you’re OMG!

for the love of God and all else that is holy, change the title to something that doesn't imply that Rust is gone. I almost started crying. I don't know how to change it, maybe add an "(after graduation)" somewhere? EDIT: Or maybe not, since everyone else is not paranoid enough to assume that this means he's leaving, like I did. Sorry for the being upset. I always assume the worse at this time of year :-( I don't know enough about Columbus to really make a statement, but I doubt that he would choose to just leave, before he even plays a game there and if they traded someone that had played even a couple games in the NHL for him, as a prospect, I would assume they like him enough to not trade him really quickly... He's a really solid defensive center that has some offensive pop. Depending on how good he gets, I could see him anywhere from a solid 2nd-4th line center. Sort of a poor man's Filppula. Good centers don't grow on trees, so I would think that at some point he could help.

Thank you. This is the time of the year unfortunately players decide to stay or leave. The thread title is very misleading and leads one to the belief that Rust is going to leave. Rust and Burlon are the top two flight risks this summer. I don't know enough about Columbus' grind lines and AHL reserves to assess a true flight risk.

Neither one of them are a flight risk. It's pretty clear, from all sources, that both Rust and Burlon are going to play all four years. It's obviously a little different with Rust because he's with a new organization, but New Jersey has been very clear that they have no interest in signing Burlon until he's played all four years at Michigan. Not only because of developmental reasons, but also because they don't have anywhere to put him where he would get an appropriate number of minutes at a competitive level. Eckford, Urboom and Corrente are still pegged for Lowell next year, so there is really no point in signing Burlon since he would be assigned to Lowell, at best.

appreciate facts and reasons. But as much as I don't expect anyone to leave and you make the point that some of them really couldn't leave, I just can't believe that we're going to get through the off-season without departures. It's just too much a fact of life at Michigan for me to feel good about nobody leaving and that's always going to be my first thought when I see a post about somebody's future in the NHL. This makes me feel a tiny bit better though. I'll feel good about nobody leaving in about August... :-(

I understand what you're saying. We're all too used to it happening, so that's completely justified. The only real "flight risk" this year was Hagelin, but now that the Rangers have signed Mats Zucarello-Aasen from Norway, there is very little chance of that happening. From what I understand there wasn't a very high risk of it happening anyway, but that signing decreased the risk even more. It's a combined sign of both the top end talent on the team and also the age of the talent. Next summer the risk will be much greater.
