Running Backs Coach Update

Submitted by nmumike on

I apologize if this has already been posted, but according to the Det News, Wheatley will be in town this week to discuss the opening on the coaching staff. The rest of the article is mostly stuff we already knew.

The weird thing is that the post continues to be visible; if the mods take a post down it normally disappears pretty quickly. On top of that, the number of comments keeps increasing; I first tried to click on it when it had six comments, but I got the "access denied" message. Now the number of comments is up to 25.

Either it was deleted, or the title was changed (so when you are clicking on it, it's looking for a page name that doesn't exist and was changed to something else).

For example, if someone puts up a page that is titled (Running backs coach) and the OP or the mods change it to (CC - Running backs coach) it will give you an "access denied" error if you're clicking on the old link or trying to refresh the old page. You have to refresh the main page and then click on it again in the sidebar.

Sam Webb said yesterday on Michigan Insider that Ty Wheatley to Michigan is more than just speculation but he, for the time being, cannot elaborate.

So, what we're saying is there might be some chance that we could indeed be in for a "burst of Wheatleys" on campus if this goes our way? That is to say, there is a non-zero probability of said occurence? I like this thought because having Wheatley on staff would be an awesome get, in my opinion.

Is everyone pining for Wheatley because of his history?

How can we objectively measure Wheatley's impact on his past RB coaching gigs (not his UM or Raiders data)

Buffalo finished 25th in rushing at nearly 93 yards a game. That said, they have one good player on offense and he's a WR (Watkins). Idk what that means for Tyrone but I'd take him over Fred.

Yes maybe the game has passed Fred by, but give the man his due for being what he was - a great running backs coach. Look at his record over all of his years and I think his record stands against anybody else in the country.

I don't understand why we're going after an NFL running backs coach who hasn't proven to actually make RB's better when we have Mike Hart 2 hours away. He turned a freshman RB into an absolute monster at WMU. Not only that but he has established relationships with coaches in the area. Stupid IMO.

And the freshman from WMU should thank the O-Line and his creator because he would have ran for that many yards regardless of who his coach was. On the flip side, Wheatly had Spiller and JAckson to work with, not exactly the "horses" you want to inherit.

Even the best coach can look bad if he doesnt have good players, and vice versa....
