RUMOR: Speight dinged up

Submitted by poppinfresh on
Sam Webb hinting that Speight's shoulder is dinged up and we may see more of Okorn in non blowout time against Indiana. There are Twitter rumors (the account name not lending a ton of credence) that speight is dealing with a more severe shoulder injury, a broken collar bone. https://mobile.twitter.com/MichNasty86/status/797930097483231232 There are also rumors on Facebook similar to this Twitter account but hard to tell since Michigan doesn't release injury info and I didn't see speight in a sling last night. Again Webb not saying broken collar bone, but dinged up. Rumors more severe.

Even if he is able to play, this is not good.  Defenses are going to smell blood in the water and come after him hard.

A 100% healthly O'korn has to be better than a 75% Speight.

I don't know his status, but did you actually read who made that tweet you linked in the original post?

Somehow "Fake Sports Reporter" doesn't seem like the most reputable source.

I think we can beat Indiana with O'Korn. Just feed Evans and Isaac and keep giving John short passes to Butt and we should be fine. I would like to get our run game going this week.

Yeah, I want Smith to be good because it seems like he runs angry at the world but he just isn't producing. He's shown flashes in the past but simply isn't getting it done from what I'm seeing this year. And these are the averages for our backs:

Smith = 4.9 yards, 121 carries

Evans = 7.8 yards, 65 carries

Higdon = 6.8 yards, 61 carries

Isaac = 6.0 yards, 69 carries

The coaches must love his blocking because statistically he's way behind the other guys but almost doubling everyone in terms of carries.

You need a Smith to tire out the opposing D-line and grind out 3rd and 2.  He is like the body blows in a boxing match.  But I think mid 3rd to 4th quarter, it's better to go with the other backs.

The pitch to Smith is just a bad play...why run a sweep with your slowest back, I just don't get.

I watched that entire game and it was squarely on poor coaching (surprise). McSorley got banged up early and was no threat to run, but they continued to run the 'read' option for every single Barkley carry without blocking the DE. McSorley didn't keep once after his injury, and IU collapsed their DE on every run thereafter. Also, PSU is dealing with a bunch of injuries on the oline.
