that DB and JH have been talking all along.  The question is whether JH wants the NFL or college football.  The worst decision would be where JH takes the Michigan position only to wonder if he still wanted the NFL.  Possble solution is to have JH go visit all the NFL options, 49'ers, Miami, Denver ... etc.  After JH has all the data about the NFL, he then meets again with DB.  I think if JH wants to stay with the college game ... it will only be with Michigan.

So the next meeting with DB will be the closure on JH.  At that time JH will either pick Michigan or the NFL.  From DB's part  -  this gives JH total control of his destiny ... after all the real decision is whether he fits into the NFL game.  If he picks the NFL ... there's a 90%+ chance that he will be fired one day ... probably less than 10 years from now (that's just the way the NFL is)  -  hell, even Vince Lombardi got fired !!!

The college game is always working with kids.  Building kids into football players and staying "young" as a part of the campus experience.  So what kind of coach does JH want to be .... we will find out shortly.

and I really do not like this move at all if it is actually true. They need to get Bill Cowher and give him full control of that team. The reason for not getting Cowher is Ross was not willing to let go of his GM Jeff Ireland, which is a bad move. I wish JH all the luck in Miami, but I just do not see this ending well for him if this truly is the case. With the amount of money he is going to get paid, unreasonable expectations will also come with it. Also, the division he plays in may be the best division in the NFL. Right now, Miami cannot compete with the Jets or Patriots. JH will be looking for a new gig in 3 years and Michigan will not be open for him.

Just my opinion here, so take it for what it is worth. JH is intimidated by the Michigan job. He knows that there is some work to do here and I believe he is scared of failing here. So, he is looking for someone else to fix this mess. (mainly on D)) He has a lot of connects and friends here and the possibility of him failing is turning him off. Just my opinion here again.

If JH goes to the NFL it is because he wanted to not bc M was screwing any pooches. As CEO of 2 Fortune 500 companies you can be sure that DB knows how to recruit key employees and managers as well as negotiate the employment contract. Plus he is friends with JH and they know each other very well. No pooches were screwed. No balls were dropped. Simple.

You are correct:

In 2003, the NFL fined the Detroit Lions $200,000 for failure to interview minority candidates for the team's vacant head coaching job. After Marty Mornhinweg was fired, the Lions immediately hired former San Francisco 49ers head coach Steve Mariucci to replace him without interviewing any other candidates

I don't mean that the intent of the rule is bad.  I mean that owners can just throw the fine into the cost of doing business and get on with their lives.  A more meaningful penalty would be the loss of draft picks.

That is one problem with the rule.  Miami is in a tough situation, they don't particularly love their current coach, but seem willing to stick with him if they can't land Harbaugh.  Well, how can you follow the rule if you are literally only considering making a move if you're going to be able to hire one particular candidate?

Greetings from the Evergreen State!  That $6 mill is getting ready to host a playoff game this weekend.  You gotta give Carroll a little credit for having the foresight to jump to the worst division in the NFL and be an instant 'success'.  Sounds eerily familiar to his USC run...

He is simply using NFL leverage to get market value for his contract here. Don't believe all the talking heads, because the fact is, they need something to talk about for a week.

HARBAUGH IS COMING, AND REJOICE.

There is no way Harbaugh sells out, for marginal money, especially in the fickle NFL.

and p.s.  i need a pos bang, because i got negbanged to oblivion for suggesting Harbaugh over Rodriguez, months ago.

... Steve Ross wants to be Jerry Jones in sandals, roaming the sidelines.  He sees Harbaugh as stealing some of the thunder of the Heat and the Three Amigos.

This will end badly.  I think the over/under for Harbaugh's tenure is about 3.5 years. By that time, Brady Hoke can bring him in as Asst QB coach to Scot Loeffler.
