Rostering 2017 - Interactive Dashboard and Interesting Visuals
I put together some visuals from Seth's google sheet. It includes where coaches are getting recruits, player measurables and draft history. It isn't the best on mobile. Enjoy.

First post, couldn't figure out how to create a link.

This is pretty cool.
I'm surprised that there are so many states where we haven't pulled in any recruits over the last 2 and a half decades.

I wonder if my company is messing with their computers to keep me from slacking off?

You will get a bunch of snark about that because some people can't be bothered with problem solving.
Very nice thank you. We don't get many out of Alabama or Mississippi do we?

I think one of the most interesting takeaways for me was that Hoke got recruits by % from Michigan than Rich Rod. He really focused on Ohio.

He needed to focus more on Ohio...

Also, +1 for
chart.

I've only dabbled in Tableau at work, but what you've done here is really cool. Thanks for sharing this!
Zoomed in on the regional charts to my hometown of Saline, MI and found Vince Helmuth's name - I actually didn't realize he was from there. I think the only real football name Saline HS ever had to offer (that immediately comes to mind) was Chris Baker, who was orginally from NYC but was two years behind my class in high school.
January 10th, 2017 at 1:20 PM ^
Vince was Chris Baker's half brother. Good genes there.
Also, it's like you tried to forget former starting quarterback Nick Sheridan.

Also from Saline
I'm updating how I picture you to be the group of high schoolers who would trade Magic cards in the cafeteria with me before band practice when I was in fifth grade.
January 10th, 2017 at 2:07 PM ^
It would probably shock a lot of people to know that I have no clue how to play Magic and in fact never even really did more than glance at a deck of Magic cards until well after high school and long after the game had reached peak popularity.
I am, however, pretty damn good at most card games you can play with a standard 52-card deck.

Tableau is very cool and I love that you did this with it, this is a really fun chart.
Thank you!

on the regional tab you have your bar graph showing how many players came from each state or province. on it you have QUE listed which i know is for Quebec and you also have PQ listed, if you didn't know this is also Quebec. so i don't know if you want to group all of those players together.
1 qestion who was the player that RichRod got from Quebec?
January 10th, 2017 at 12:39 PM ^
I didn't know that, i will Merge them. The player is
Renaldo Sagesse |

Quebec is weird like that...
because i was looking to see who the Quebec player was, I did come across Sagesse but 24/7 shows him being a part of the 2007 class...

Very interesting data. Thank you.

Man, we've really struck out in Texas. For some reason, that stood out to me.
Great job, this is a really awesome tool.
January 10th, 2017 at 1:07 PM ^
Wow, this is awesome! Very nice work
January 10th, 2017 at 1:49 PM ^
Awesome stuff. Thanks for the time suck from work!
January 10th, 2017 at 1:51 PM ^
We really need to tap into Texas. Of course OSU is recruiting TX well :/
January 10th, 2017 at 2:10 PM ^
I wonder how much the home and home they had with Texas a few years ago plays into that? I think it's that and the fact that their playing in big bowl games every year. I wouldn't mind a home and home with them future. I guess we'll just have to settle for playing Florida in Jerry's World. Edit: Nevermind. After a quick Google search I see we have them in 2024 & 2027. Niiiicceee.

Very interesting. Thanks for taking the time to do that!

Slideshow Bob, this is amazing. Rollovers are addictive like watching a fire in the fireplace, and bookmarked for future work procrastinating for sure.
I had completely forgotten all I never knew about Jason Kates (339 lbs.), but now I wonder if agent supreme Maine Prince had any success marketing him as an NFL-ready DL with that 2013 YouTube promo highlights video...
