As an alumnus from New York, I never thought to read anything in the Freep ever, and obtained all my Michigan related sports news while living in Ann Arbor from...you guessed it...mgoblog and the board.  I read War As They Knew It and thoroughly enjoyed it.  This was the summer before the Freep article was written.  And now after having read Three and Out, I despise this man.

My question is what is the general consensus about War as They Knew It around here?  Did you enjoy it and find it entertaining/informative as it gave an interesting perspective about the era?  Or could you not enjoy it given the author?

Don't be too hard on his fellow print media members.  They all know they part of an industry that is dying and dying quickly so they band togehter like Custer's men at Little Big Horn.  Face it - Every single person drawing a paycheck through print will be out of work in the next three years and they know it.  They hate it -but they know it.

Kinda like the Passenger locomotive engineers about the time jet air travel was introduced.  Technology does fuck careers up.

got exactly what he wanted from his whole stint at the Free Trash...

1.  Make a name for myself by ousting the coach at the best college football program in the country...CHECK

2.  Make the best program go on probation by trapping young players into misleading quotes...CHECK

3.  Completely miss the infractions that I name and have the NCAA find different ones...CHECK

4.  Get a job outside of the shit hole named Detroit...CHECK

To you, the dolphin punching Rosenberg...I have only one quote from the immortal Bill Walton-"You think you're better than you are."

Good riddance you dick!

Tell you what; find us a nice, clear, clean blockquoted summary of what the Free Press alleged (things like "9 hours of practice on Sundays"), and I'll tell you how Rosenberg was debunked.

Even you can't spoil this day for me.

Now, get to work so that you don't cause any trouble for anybody else.

I have a hard time believing that someone as intelligent as you appear to be (based on your writing) could care so much about something that is nothing more than entertainment, which in its strictest sense is that which turns the mind off.

Rosenberg's sidekick, Mark Snyder, is still at Freep and today is heaping praise on Rosenberg as he leaves.  He and Rosenberg sat side by side on TV interviews and Snyder was on the by-line to reinforce what Rosenberg spewed.  Somehow, I felt the Freep editors placed Snyder with Rosenberg on that 'scoop' just to try to make it credible...

In a little known adaption of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” Rosenberg and Guildensnyder are devious courtiers who are sent to spy on the small “Hamlet” of Ann Arbor, using their claimed friendship with the city to gain its confidence.  They serve as spies for the corrupt King Columbus,  who usurped the hamlet’s throne through cheating.

Columbus recruits Rosenberg and Guildensnyder to escort the Hamlet’s representatives to Indianapolis, Denmark, where they are to be condemned to the death penalty at the hands of the NCAA.  However, the order backfires.  The corruption of Columbus is exposed; Columbus ends up hearing the death knell of the NCAA; Guildensnyder sees his career die with the bankruptcy of his publisher; and Rosenberg is exiled to a distant land called CNNSI, where he spends the rest of his natural life toiling for his bosses, making hamburgers (which he calls "rosenbergers").

There is a real trench-war going on right now, between The Ohio State University and ESPN/SI.  Lawsuits, FOIAs, lawsuits about FOIAs, personal attacks, public recriminations, etc.

How ugly could it get, if Rosenberg is made the point man in SI's Big Ten football coverage, and he turns his charms on OSU?

I'd be on the Buckeyes' side in a New York minute.

...so I could have the distinct pleasure of calling to cancel my subscription and tell them why I'm doing it.

I don't know why this is good news to anyone...the Freep is forever dead to me and now this just taints another publication AND Rosey gets a promotion.

Sounds great!  For me to poop on.

I don't feel it is good news.  The Free Press sucks and I have avoided it for years.

I do read SI occasionally and often visit their website.  In fact, I think this news sucks becaue it kind of feels like Rosenberg has simply moved closer to my turf and that I'm more likely to accidentally run into him now.

If you look at his twitter feed, there's at least a couple of people who question his ethics (yellow journalism, vendetta, etc) and he replies with "if you have questions about my reporting Shoot me an email....mrosenberg at freepress dot com"

Sounds like a challenge to me.

I don't understand all the vitriol he is receiving.... he only wrote about information that was given to him.  He didn't trap anyone, didn't deceive anyone, he was granted interviews and wrote about wrongdoings under RR's staff.  That's all.

He is a journalist, that's what they do.  This board should be mad at RR's staff, not a newspaper writer.
