Rose Bowl chances

After today's outcomes, does anyone know what scenario it would take for us to go to the Rose Bowl?

While that might be a more natural fit, it just depends which NYD bowls that aren't involved in the playoffs get to pick first. I don't normally pay any attention to this, but UM after beating ohio and with only basically 1.5 losses would be an attractive choice to whichever bowl gets to pick 1st. That bowl isn't going to care about UM's wishes or the rose bowl's wishes

Probably beat OSU and Michigan has a very good shot at the rose bowl unless MSU loses to Penn State and Michigan goes to B1G championship game.

I figure if MSU wins next week they likely beat Iowa as well and 1 conference loss Michigan gets the Rose Bowl over Iowa and 2 conf loss OSU.

Having thought this through, there is a strong possibility the Big Ten could get shut out of the playoff if Michigan State wins out. In that case, it's Sparty to the Rose. Sparty needs to lose to either Penn State or Iowa to send Michigan to the Rose Bowl. Of course, if ND loses to Stanford or the Big12 shakes out in an odd way, things could be different.

If we do that and Sparty loses to PSU, we probably end up in the Rose whether we beat Iowa or not.

If we do that and Sparty beats PSU but loses bad to Iowa in the B1G championship, we may go to the Rose Bowl.

I don't care about which bowl at all.  All I want is to beat Ohio State.  Rose v. Citrus v. Outback... whatever... beat OSU and send Urbz to the fake hospital in a fack ambulance with a fake heart attack.

I've been keeping an eye on this as I'm already going to be at the Rose Bowl for an unrelated reason.

My thought all along is that if UM made it to the B1G champ game they'd go to the rose regardless because they would either be a 2 loss champ which I don't see making the payoff or they loose to Iowa and be runner up.

However, after today, I wonder what would happen if UM beats OSU, MSU goes on to obliterate Iowa...would the Rose bowl take a 2 loss UM over Iowa?

That only holds true for conference winners. It's how UM played Texas in the rose bowl that one year, and other teams like oklahoma and tcu played there Obviously the rose bowl will do what it can to pick an at large pac 12/big team that travels well, but it has to be a team in the top 15 or whatever. If the rose bowl gets last choice, they can't take a 9-3 or even 11-1 BiG team over 12-0 mid major for instance. There's all these restrictions. That's why the playoff is much more appealing. It avoids the nonsense

I see it if Iowa LOSES to Nebraska next week and then Sparty beats Iowa in the B1G championship and we beat the Buckeyes, I would assume Sparty makes the playoff and the Rose would pick us over an Iowa squad who lost their last 2 games. Either that or Sparty loses to PSU and we win out. Either way, if we beat OSU we either need Sparty or Iowa to lose next week to have a chance.

Wait wait wait wait wait. What about the possibility that our old friends in Lincoln might hand Iowa a loss next Friday. Then if MSU wins out and goes to the Final Four, and we beat OSU, we probably get the Rose Bowl bid over 2-loss Iowa. (?)
