and I thought it was a good fit - southern accent and all.  When he moved over to cover other sports, I thought it sounded kind of "forced".  He does a good job (and keeps politics out of it).

I wonder how he got selected to go to Rome - these are the "atta boy!" assignments.

Truly looked to be a great time for everyone involved. Never got to travel much in college but in high school when we went on trips even just across the state or country, were some of the best memories I've kept. These kids will always remember this trip and I can only imagine how many others interests were piqued from this trip. Go Blue!

Um, 90% of NASCAR fans are college football fans.  That's the southeast: NASCAR and college football.

That's all they had for decades, and they are very passionate about both.

I think that's great.  And both of those sports should stay true to their roots.  It's a mistake for either of them to try to be something else to "broaden their fanbase".

NASCAR made that mistake, and college football keeps flirting with the same mistake.

We don't need NFL-lite.

Saw this during this AM SportsCenter...great stuff, awesome publicity, waiting for the first public complaint by a coach (I actually don't think we'll see it, because I think there would be a lot of backlash - this thing was executed beautifully).

I gotta admit, when they announced this last year, I really didn't get it. The camp tour and spring break trip to FL were pretty simple ideas with fairly obvious motivations, but this kinda confused me as to what the point of all of it was. Even when they announced the itinerary, it sounded cool but it wasn't until I saw the looks on the players' faces and how formative of an experience (not to mention fun) this was for everyone that I fully realized the genius of this trip.

In the local rag they said it was great for bonding too with the defensive and offensive players hanging out together.   I guess being involved in other sports I fail to remember there is quite a bit of separation of these units as in most other sports you do "both" where in football you specialize and spend all your time on that side of the meetings, practices, etc - and actively compete vs the other.

If you believe said rag all the boys are now opera buffs too.
