RIP WAC: Idaho goes Independent, joins Big Sky for other sports
We have seen the death of the WAC today. Idaho has just announced that they will be leaving the WAC and becoming the 5th FBS independent. They will join the Big Sky in all other sports.
They really should be moving down to FCS. Would be a good fit for them.
This leaves the WAC with one member who has football, New Mexico State. And three full members total.

Will the three remaining members of the WAC play each other three times a year, or just pack up shop and look for new conferences?

Good luck WAC, we will miss you. That is as soon as we find you, we will then miss you because your almost gone.. anyways goodluck....well you guys get the sentiment.

That's it then...New Mexico State will just have to continually scrimmage itself for an in-conference schedule. DeWayne Walker will hopefully get them to a point where they should at least break even in the WAC..

the WAC was heavily depending on Idaho remaining a member to remain a league?
Sounds like a drinking problem waiting to happen right there.

This is about as exciting as EMU announcing that they are independent. Idaho just isn't a FBS kind of team, but they are in the FBS to, as their president said, "keep the school eligible for the big revenue generated by college football."
I find it quite refereshing, though, to hear someone eschew the pseudo-idealism and just admit that they are doing it for the money.

I give it 3 years before they go to FCS. They'd probably have to have 7-8 away games just to keep the revenue coming in; what school would want to play at Idaho?
