I had heard that he had battled various issues for quite some time (going back to the 1990s, as I recall), but very bummed to hear that he has passed. The Elliott name is part of Michigan history, and thoughts are with his family during this time.

He was my host when I went out to K State in the spring of 2003 to study their defense. At that time he was co DC with some skinny young dude named Bret Bielema. Coach E had health issues back then. He introduced me to Bill Snyder, who was the nicest D1 coach I've ever met. I learned a lot of very interesting spread defense schemes, and we enjoyed talking man coverage technique. RIP Coach E.

Can we all please dispense with the "thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time" semantics? Unless you're writing a press release or tweet for some organization or on behalf of someone of notoriety, you shouldn't use it.

It just sounds lazy and meaningless when a message board poster uses it.
