RichRod Addressing the Team?

Submitted by bklein09 on
Does anyone think that RichRod has addressed the team about this recent fiasco, and if so what do you think he said to them? It seems to me that damage control is one of the most important things at this point. That and winning on Saturday of course.

Well, as a coach myself, I wouldn't address the team about damage control. I would address them about coming together to make a stronger team. I would play the "nobody wants us to win so show them what we can do" card and use this to motivate them. Then, several weeks later, I would put up new guidlines for speaking to the media.

I would guess that the coaches would say something about it to the team. It would be kind of awkward otherwise. They probably just told them that if they aren't willing to put in the work, then they should leave. Also, I'm hoping they did something to make sure that Hawthorne and Stokes know that no one is mad at them for being tricked by the media. They probably felt horrible when they heard about the article.

This is just another of the many facets of the douchiness of those reporters... Hawthorne and Stokes probably feel awful about this, even though they were baited by propagandists with an agenda. As if they aren't under enough stress as it is... acclimating to college life, relocating to a new area, and working their asses off in practice... That's a lot for 18 year old kids to deal with, and now there's this. I seriously loathe these "reporters".

Dave Ablauf, the SID for the football team, will likely briefly address the team telling them to say "no comment" and direct all questions to the Athletic Department. This story is going to be put into hardcore message control mode. We'll see how successful it is after the press conference tomorrow.

I would hope that players such as Brandon Minor and Brandon Graham step up to the plate and assume leadership first before the coach gets involved. Ultimately, the players must buy the system and as of now, there is at least one mole on the team who plays. The player leaders should make it known that any squealing is unacceptable and that you're either with the team or against the team. Any issues should be addressed to the coaches directly. They should proceed to say that bygones are bygones and give everyone a chance to rally around the team. At that point, with the team united, RR can come in and explain in detail the rules and workout requirements. Having BM accompany him or explain the rules would also be nice. RR should then rally the team alongside the player leaders.
