coach rod said choked up at the banquet tonight "our time is coming and in a big way". The teams going to rally around their coach! "we will let people jump on the bandwagon. they may not get a front seat" he also said he is "honored to be hc of michigan i hope you all realize i trully want to be a michigan man" rich showed a lot of emotion and the players looked ready to play a game tonight.

said he was a scholar.  Lion KIng, Josh Groban, etc. etc.  We hired a hillbilly and that's what we've got.  Can't blame him for that.  That's just who he is.

Personally, I'd prefer a quote from a classic, or whatever, Lloyd style.  I don't think we're gonna get that anytime soon.

Do you think maybe he was getting choked up because he knows how close the program is to becoming great, but he knows that his time is coming to an end at this great university? Just an interesting thought to ponder

Just by looking at the recruits he has coming in for next year, Does anyone think that THEY are going to take this 120th ranked defense and make it the 50th ranked "d" in the country? They will still be FRESHMAN! Just like we had this year. So the recruitment by this man I question. Although I think the guy has got something to offer, I just think if he had a glimmer of hope coming from the defense next year it would help quit this inferno about his job. But we don't have anything to hang our hats on.  I still think RR is a good person and this needs to be settled sooner than later.

10 of 11 returning starters. Considering Woolfolk replacing Rogers, that means we only lose Mouton since Demens took over for Ezeh. Maybe 10 of 12 if you count Banks as a starter. My hope is that most of the D recruits from this year don't even play...you know, the way it should be had we had depth and all. Think of all the experience the young guys got this year (Avery, Talbott, CJohnson, TGordon, CGordon, Vinopal, Christian, Black). You can think their contributions this year will be the same in every subsequent year, but I think those players will continue to get better. Most players improve as they age through college.

Right and the Freshmen from this year will be Sophmores and better and the Sophmores from this year will be Juniors and better.

That's how it works. People have this misguided notion that a great recruiting class turns around a program right away. It doesn't, and that's why the "we need to recruit more defense" meme is completely misguided. Upperclassmen, especially on defense, are generally the reason the team wins or loses.

None of Rodriguez's defensive recruits are Juniors yet.

“My name is Rich Rodriguez, I’m honored to be the football coach at Michigan. I hope you realize I want to be a Michigan man.

We don’t compare eras. Even though we want to rely on the past, we don’t say ‘this era was better.’ .... I’m proud to brag on the 90s or the 80s, but we all need to be one Michigan.

I came here three years ago, leaving my comfort zone, because I thought this was a great opportunity,… I knew after being on the job for a few months there were going to be some challenges. And more come out in front of us. We never ran away from it.

It’s going to happen, and it’s going to happen in a big way. I wish it happened yesterday, last year, the first year. Believe me, my life would be a lot easier.

This may seem kind of cheesy or sappy or what have you, but I’ve been listening to it the last few weeks, and it kind of fits the mood of what we’re in right now.

Sometimes we’re evaluated strictly on wins and losses. “hat’s OK. I’m a big boy in a big-boy world. I understand that. Our players understand. My wife understands it and my 14-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son understand. That’s the world we live in.

RR gets it.  This shows that he is in touch with reality.  I'm amazed that some of his supporters don't realize that W/L is a metric (one of many possible) used to evaluate a coach.

many of his supporters, like myself, get that W/L is a metric.  We also see improvement as the number of wins and the quality of the team improves.

3-9

5-7

7-5 + bowl game

Overall (15-21 + bowl game and trending upward)

We're not ready to hang with the big boys but we have been recruiting with them or better and as our players mature, we will be able to compete with them.  The defense will improve because of having more practices and reps and film study.

META: When you make statements like this it sounds, to those of us who disagree with you, like you actually think we're ignoring the data and we're just part of some cult that loves RR because he "aw shucks" us.  It's very frustrating.

Coaches with a 3 year trend of exactly 3 wins, 5 wins, and 7 wins will, on average, have roughly 6.5  wins in their fourth season.  The range goes from a low of 4 wins to a high of 10.  Please do not use past performance data in football to extrapolate to future performance.  It's fine as an analytical tool for evaluating past performance.  It is not useful as a mathematical model to extrapolate to future performance.

When I heard about him quoting 'You Raise Me Up', I could only think of this.

I appreciate his passion, but he may be starting to snap under the weight of the pressure.
