Rich Rod's "All In" Towels

Submitted by MGoAndy on
Today at RR's presser he came out wearing an "All In For Michigan" student section shirt and sporting a new gameday towel for fans to wave around. I'm sure the pictures will be floating around the web soon enough, but they say "All In For Michigan" with a block M on top, and are a genuine maize color, as opposed to the electric maize Adidas has been rocking. He said they'll be on sale all year, that the proceeds will go to Mott Children's Hospital, and that he hopes to see 110,000 of them in the stands. Discuss.

It's been previously discussed that it'd be hard to make people wear all maize, especially during the cold days. I think it'll be easy for everybody to just wave a maize towel at certain moments in the games, and that will give it some maize-out effect, even if not at full stregth.

that what you call "electric yellow" is actually traditionally maize. The darker, just-a-touch-of-orange gold that you're looking for is actually off the mark. As far as the towel-- hey, if it's for charity, good for them.

The name "maize" should make it clear that it refers to the bright yellow that you see on a corncob, but for some reason people don't make the connection. By the same token, many teams with "gold" in their uniforms, like Purdue, have more of a copper-gold shade.

I think its cool that they made it a charity thing for the Mott hospital. That, and anything is better than angrily rattling your keys.

Does anyone else get annoyed by being commanded to discuss. I mean you came to forum and posted a topic. What else do you expect people to do? Maybe I am just annoyed because it is still the off season.

Myron Cope gave the rights for revenue from the sale of the Terrible Towel to go to the Allegheny Valley School, which is where is son attended. It is a place for students with mental retardation and other physical disabilities. As a Steelers fan I don't mind another school using a fan towel, especially if the money goes to a good cause. I wonder why the Steelers have not made the Terrible Towel available as a golf towel (with the little metal clip), because every Yinzer and his brother would have one his golf bag. Perhaps, Michigan could do this?

I really like how RR and Beilein have really made efforts to boost fan involvement and school spirit. Not to bash Lloyd or anything, but he didn't really have a presence around the fans. Amaker just sucked all around but I guess he was classy--that's it. I imagine that part of it has to do with RR and Beilein coming to Ann Arbor and noticing that fans/students aren't quite as rabid as at WVU, so Michigan can definitely use the boost. I especially love the Terrible Towel idea and agree that it would look cool to have everyone waving one around. I don't like the RAWK music suggestion.

Amaker wasn't that bad in this area. He successfully lobbied to have the Maize Rage put courtside, and also (at least once) paid for buses to take students to a Northwestern game. He wasn't real big on selling the program through the media, though.

All in for Michigan kind of sucks but I don't care. We need a new attitude in the fan base and in the stands. I'll buy and wave the towel, I like doing my part to change the gameday atmosphere.

My wife and 2 kids and I will be in for the EMU. I will certainly buy at least 4, but I am thinking we may each have 2 (one in each hand) to make up for the fuddy duddies who won't wave them, but instead tell me and my kids to sit down and be quiet. Damn I can't wait for Sept. 5 GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!

All in for Michigan sounds like something the PR department for little brother would come up with. It's just a poor attempt to rally the fans after a disappointing season. I like the idea of the towels better than the pom poms they give out now. The towels look much more intimidating than pom poms ever will. The only problem will be getting the students to buy them (unless RR decides to give them away to students for free) and of course the older alumni who may buy them but refrain from waving them.

This sounds like a pretty good idea; however, I can already hear the down-in-fronters claiming it obstructs their vision or something ludicrous. And ejecting the guy for the cowbell? At the OSU game, no less? Obviously, that guy's never been to Yost. Not surprised. I support any form of spirit/fan participation which encourages fans, young and old, to stand up, yell and scream in unison, and put away their f*cking keys. And more cowbell. Oh, and sorostitutes not sitting on their ass or talking on their cell phone during a critical third-down play. Basically, anything which makes us louder and ends all talk of how quiet we are, which I hate more than anything.

I'm okay with the slogan "All in for Michigan." It's cornball but it has an old-school ring to it, like something people would have said a century ago.
