Revenge is a dish best served on the road - in your opponent's backyard

After being embarrassed by Michigan State at home in 1978, the Wolverines had to wait 365 days to avenge that dastardly defeat at the hands of the Jolly Green Giants. Well, the "Arrogant Asses" from Ann Arbor shut their collective mouths and went to work back in 1979. Think they weren't pointing to that MSU Game as a red-letter game? Hail yes, they were!! Enjoy these sights and sounds of how sweet revenge was back in 1979. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ph8S1shsYQ

Every time I see the old astroturf at Spartybowl it reminds me of an exchange with a Sparty grad, who when ripping Michigan Stadium I asked "Michigan State prides itself as an agricultural school, right?"  Yes.  "So why do they have astroturf in the football stadium?  Wouldn't it be a showcase for the school to actually do something agricultural, like grow grass on a national stage?"

She stopped the "Michigan is stupid 'cuz they suck and are stupid" rant & actually had to admit it would be a good idea.

Michigan Replay! Used to be my 2nd favorite thing to watch (with Michigan games as #1). We were a Free Press family (yeah, yeah) but I'd get a News whenever I could. Read everything leading up to the game, watch the game, then the sports segments on channels 2, 4, and 7, get up early to get the Sunday paper to read about it, then watch Sports Final Edition. And then repeat that cycle all season long. And yes, I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time.

Locally, regionally, and nationally. Closest I've seen is 13 points. Most are predicting complete beatings. I've only found two people picking State out of maybe 40 people. Just makes me feel good that others not influenced by rooting interests are seeing how much of a mismatch this game should be. Just win Saturday dammit!

am officially into "we need to check ourselves" mode at this point. This type of prolonged intense shit talk that has led up to this game is approaching the bad karma level now. This team has had our number. This is not the first time we were "totally going to kick State's ass" in the last nine years. Saturday night after a comfortable victory is the right time for this thread.

I'm still not taking them lightly. I don't anyone lightly and you'd be a fool to take a rival lightly.

That said, just read some of the previews and breakdowns on this game.

This is the best Michigan team they've seen by 50,000 miles since their current coach has been there and they're the worst they've been since their coach has been there.

paper, it should be a legit blowout. But, eventually State is going to catch some breaks. And Speight is precisely two weeks removed from being very shaky. D'antoni and crew are going to stack the box. Hopefully we don't go into a shell like last year. State is an early interception away from being a legit threat. This program fucking hates us man. I can guarantee you this, State does not think they are going to lose this game.

It was pouring and the receivers were all wearing the wrong gloves..........that's why Speight looked "shaky". He hit some great passes in that game when the weather died down. Including a deep ball.

Speight then worked on a ton of things during the bye week and had a 250-yard game last week against a defense that actually has a decent pass defense.

Bring it the fuck on. Stack the box. I dare them with that shit secondary they have. Ask UCF (the team that didn't lose to Maryland by double digits) how that worked out when Speight lit them up.

You need to stop being so scared. This is OUR TIME to punch these people in the face and stomp them.

One of their big mouth players deleted his tweet from over the summer recently about us, so that doesn't project too much confidence.

Again, not taking them lightly. But have some belief in your team that has destroyed 3 teams currently ranked.

Hard not to hedge when we literally had the lead with 0:00 on the clock and still lost. I didn't take it well either. Hoping our guys just keep their heads down and execute and don't get caught up in the hubris.

I get it, not wanting to 'jinx' the game or 'look past' state, but look at state. They're not a good team and are quite young. Rivalries bring out the best but many of the recent games vs Sparty were against far better teams and even the most diehard M fan knew it. Objectively speaking and based on the games played this year, the two teams haven't had such a disparity of talent in a long, long time.

1991 was the last time we were really good and they were really bad and the game was on the road.

Ironically, Tyrone Wheatley Sr. scored his first career TD in that game.

We won 45-28 and it wasn't as close as the score looked.

Hawaii was not exactly a concern even if Michigan had taken them lightly.

Last year does factor here.  Hopefully we can get back to taking MSU lightly (I'm trying to remember if we ever have done that with MSU in my lifetime... no can't say I do.)

Go Blue WD!  Sorry to call you out there.  You are the epitome of a die hard so it's easy pickings.  I will stop that.  You have a right to your opinion.

It's PTSD dude. Those are the symptoms. Now that you know, you can slap yourself in the face whenever you feel nervous of Sparty. That's what Little Brother is supposed to feel like before he HAS to face off with Big Brother.

Little Brother is just a big bag of chips that are incredibly stale and crunchy. Put that PTSD aside and realize that Little Brother is about to get laid out. If Harbaugh gets the chance, he's going to put up 80 on them and put them back in their place.

We should never be afraid of Little Brother. Not last year not the year before and definitely not this year.

Look at this game from a football sense.

Also, the "IT'S A RIVALRY" effect works both ways.

state may wish they lost last year, because you can bet your ass our players will be out to avenge last year and ram it down their fucking throats.

Not only that but this is the most experienced team in the BigTen playing against one of the least and there is no way Harbaugh and staff won't have the team ready and focused and executing. Colorado is a vastly better team than state but M never panicked down 21-7. I just don't see state suddenly becoming this great team with superior QB play just because it's "We Hate Michigan Week"

It would be different if this game was early like it is next year.

But it's almost November. At this point........you aren't going to pull a 180 in a week.

Them losing to Maryland is horrible for them because they're coming in with no momentum as they have had in recent years.

The last time they played a ranked Michigan team, lost the previous week and brought a .500 or worse record into the game was 2006 (31-13 Michigan). Before that it was 2002 (49-3 Michigan), then 1991 (45-28 Michigan).

OSU in 2011 was a close game, but OSU still had their usual talent (with a mobile QB) and had a win over the eventual B1G Champion.

2012 against state was close because we didn't have an OC and state had a legit defense and was losing all those games that year by single digits. They don't have anything close to that defense this year.

2013 with us going into The Game..............again, we had a QB and OSU's defense was pretty mediocre.

The point is that it's not Random State U. It's a highly intense, highly emotional rivalry. It's exactly the type of game in which a team can come up with an unexpected effort. I'm just glad that there's no way Harbaugh feels overconfident, or will allow anyone else to feel that way. Losing seven out of the last eight and losing the way they did last season will be on everyone's mind. I'm confident that Michigan will come out hyper-focused, but it's foolish for anyone to think that a win is guaranteed.

I hate all the shit talk on our end. Stats are usually thrown out in these types of games. On one hand, their team is going to be pissed that all they've read is how bad they're going to be beat, but on the other hand, our team should have hate in their heart. I pray the latter prevails.

You either believe we are going to win or you don't. You talk trash before, and during, not after, the game.  Our song is HAIL TO THE VICTORS, not wait and see before I feel good about not risking bad karma.

We had Bad Karma last year. This year is OUR year.  Might be good to be okay with that thought.

Let it go Soldier. We are going to win this one.
