I don't have any idea if he's credible either, but he's asking for a lawsuit if he's making this story up.
Let's just say for a moment that the story is largely true. What parts make sense and what is harder to believe? I'll start.
It makes sense to me that when McMurphy started working on his story, he didn't just look through public records and talk to Courtney Smith. The next potential sources I'd want to talk to are people that no longer work at OSU. They're less likely to tip others off. We heard Courtney Smith texted wives of assistants and staffers. I wouldn't assume she automatically stopped when their husbands took jobs elsewhere. Further, Herman was right between Smith and Meyer in the chain of command. That gave him a reason to talk to Meyer about Smith's job that the others wouldn't have had. More opportunity for disagreements about Smith too. So, it is plausible that Herman could be an important source.
It makes less sense that Snook has a source that knew Herman was motivated by a lost recruitment. He's an OSU guy living in Ohio. That sounds more like him making a guess designed to throw shade at Herman and it makes his whole story less credible.

One of his sources may also be holding onto more information--assuming they're motivated to damage Urban Meyer. Spreading out the reveal obviously keeps the story in the news and makes it more difficult for Ohio State to keep Meyer.

Yeah, that's possible. Also remember that McMurphy said he had more damaging information that he couldn't release yet? It wasn't a bluff. He's released some damaging evidence in response to statements made since that threat.
One reason could be he has talked to witnesses that want their name kept out of it. But they'll let him go forward with their information if OSU clears Meyer or if others step forward and tell lies they can refute.

It all puts a lot of pressure on the school to do a thorough investigation if they knew (or felt that) a reporter has all the information already. You look really bad when you do an "investigation" only for a reporter to pull out a bunch of facts you should have been able to uncover.

If it is true, he may have approached OSU about getting the big scoop on both the outcome on both AD Smith and Meyer’s jobs.
oSU homers believe what is being told within their circles—they are trying really hard to make Courtney Smith sound like a raging psycho alcoholic thorn in Zach’s side. He’s the victim and his Mommy said so—and they have insider info that CM’s own mother texted support of Zach. So, as much as it sounds like character assassination and I’d love to just toss the tossers aside—we shall see whose truth is loudest and most substantial.

Yeah - normally I would dismiss that kind of stuff but I know someone very close to me who went through a situation like that so I know how that can go. That doesn't mean that's the case with Smith, but it's unfortunately possible so can't be ignored. Just like there are asshole men who treat women poorly, there are crazy bitches who bait men into stuff, abuse their husbands and lie about all of it, knowing they'll get the benefit of the doubt. It gets especially hard when both people have questionable character and you have no idea who to believe (could very well be the case here).

Pregnant woman, dude brings home another woman in the middle of the night AND then takes it out on her when she, understandably, reacts. She may not have been 'crazy' before that but anyone put through that kind of abuse is probably going to suffer emotionally and mentally. Its really hard for me to see two sides to that incident.
Plus the text messages from Shelley Meyer makes it clear that she thought Zach was a real threat.
