Replay officiating
November 20th, 2015 at 10:12 PM ^
Yeah, not digging replay officials this year at all. Now they're invading basketball, and still getting it wrong. Cool.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:12 PM ^
#1 - Why could you ask this in the in game thread? Most people who are watching the game and on MGoBlog are going to be in that thread
#2 - It was a shit call, the wrong call - but we don't know the replay guys had the same looks we did. They should have. But there is no guarantee they have the same feed. I suppose they could've been screened or something from their angle? Regardless, it was a shit call and they should have a way to get it right if they didn't have the same angle we had.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:17 PM ^
they should have access to every possible angle to make sure the proper call is made.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:52 PM ^
You don't understand how it works....many schools have different in house feeds than what you see on TV.
In fact, I've worked at 7 different schools and ALL of them did except for Radford and Maryland which switched when we had TV games (which this obviously is - and which is what makes me think it's hard to believe they didn't see what we did).
However, I've worked at schools, for example, UCF...where we ALWAYS used our own in-house feed and never used the TV angles/replay because we didn't have access to them.
So know what you're talking about before you state your opinion as fact.
I know this because I've literally done it and served as a replay official myself...in fact I've done it many times. Want a cookie? No. But I do know what I'm talking about in this instance.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:14 PM ^
Yes, you are right, only they know what feeds they have, but my money is on idiotic old men working the booth who have no business doing so because of who they know.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:14 PM ^
Holy overreaction. Gustave said "they should have" not "they do have".
November 21st, 2015 at 1:32 AM ^
his opinion is a fact. replay officials suck. every last fucking one of em.
how's that for an overreaction?
November 21st, 2015 at 4:40 AM ^
"Most people who are watching the game and on MGoBlog are going to be in that thread"
False
November 20th, 2015 at 10:13 PM ^
I've come to expect this. They always miss clear plays and I don't know why when it's their job.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:14 PM ^
The announcer made comment about it. It's just mind boggling how this continues to be botched in multiple sports even after the media calls it out repeatedly.

Maybe Wolverine Devotee will see this post.
WD, you put together your highlights every week. Can you put together a highlight video of all of the missed targetting calls? I'll make sure the B1G sees it if you do. Of course include the MSU/Bolden play.
I'm not even kidding...this has been driving me crazy all year. I just don't have the time/technology to put the clips together myself.
November 21st, 2015 at 12:13 AM ^
Totally serious here, make this happen. Do you actually have a way to get it to the B1G yost? WD signal activate.

I am still fuming about the call...total bullshit, assclowns...see, im still angry
November 20th, 2015 at 10:16 PM ^
Big momentum play too
November 20th, 2015 at 10:25 PM ^
Oh sweet, more calls against us at home! It must be the weekend.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:26 PM ^
Non-full time officials. I would probably suck as a ref too if I was constantly worried about what I have going on at my real job tomorrow.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:27 PM ^
Maybe they're old guys and watching on tiny monitors - get them a 60" screen and there's zero chance they miss that call
November 20th, 2015 at 11:09 PM ^
and the explanation was that the clock ticks to zero when the time drops below 1 second - not when it hits actual zero - so there is actually another second yet when the clock hits zero.
Without a tenths digit it's impossible to know if that's the case here or not.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:30 PM ^
That is such bullshit. Then how can they ever know when the shot clock is actually over? I don't believe that is a legit explanation because that is easily fixable - just don't go to zero until the clock is actually at zero.
November 21st, 2015 at 12:08 AM ^
lol, that explanation is incorrect.
November 21st, 2015 at 12:24 AM ^
I've seen this, too. Isn't there also a buzzer that sounds? Missed the first half, so didn't see any of this.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:20 PM ^
0 on clock. Ball has not left hand. What more do you need to know?
Old guy who should not be a ref. Fire him now.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:34 PM ^
You're right the refs are out to screw us again. We never get outplayed, it's always the refs.

Low IQ? It was a blown call ON REPLAY.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:39 PM ^
Hey Dawkins, get off the blog and play some defense.

November 21st, 2015 at 9:37 AM ^
Why? You're plenty defensive for the shit officials already.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:36 PM ^
.....the main problem with these "replay systems" is that the refs on the field/ floor are the ones who make the final decision when it makes most sense that the officials with all the TV screens and rewind, slo mo and zoom options should make the call?
NHL "goes to Toronto" and that seems to work pretty good, maybe the B1G can "go to Chicago" and have things called right.
November 21st, 2015 at 6:11 AM ^
Conceptually, I like this, but see a couple of potential issues. 1) is it practical to get all the video feeds from disparate locations to a centralized spot? 2) Who actively monitors the games to see if a replay might be warranted?
A centralized approach might allow more than one set of eyes to review a call. Also, you could have someone figuring out the game situation (in football correct clock and ball placement) if the call gets overturned in parallel with the decision on whether to overturn the call. It seems as if some of the delay with replay now is the serial approach of first determining if a play should be overturned and then going back and figuring out the game situation if it is overturned.
November 21st, 2015 at 9:44 AM ^
it's why i like the nhl's version; i'm starting to think the biggest problem with replay is the idea of "indisputable evidence to overturn". if the whole point is to get it right, who gives a shit what was called on the field. look at the video, make the correct call.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:37 PM ^
hopefully they can buy larger and clearer TV's for the refs at discount prices.
November 20th, 2015 at 10:47 PM ^
It makes literally zero sense. Do not understand how they are so egregiously bad...
November 20th, 2015 at 10:55 PM ^
This is one of the most frustrating things in sports. Are officials just that dumb. WTF.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:09 PM ^
John Beilein needs to retire.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:12 PM ^
That comment may rival Michigan's defense for the weakest thing of the night. JB will get lots of mileage out of this game to improve his team.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:14 PM ^
Stop drinking and go to bed.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:40 PM ^
Stop watching our team get their ass kicked physically over and over again while supporting a coach who has done nothing without Trey Burke.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:56 PM ^
Big Ten Championship isn't nothing.
November 21st, 2015 at 7:04 AM ^
You're a fucking idiot. I just thought you should know.
November 21st, 2015 at 9:44 AM ^
You're ironically named.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:13 PM ^
This is thread worthy.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:17 PM ^
Would have been pretty frustrating if we lost by 1 or 2, but with the way that ended..
November 20th, 2015 at 11:26 PM ^
that was the difference. Good lord stop whining about refs.
November 20th, 2015 at 11:26 PM ^
We have no toughness or grit. Xavier just simply wanted it more.
November 21st, 2015 at 12:15 AM ^
You guys act like this same group didn't get us to the finals and an elite 8. As if Michigan is such a blue blood that 17-7 is not acceptable. Be honest with yourselves. I remember I cried to my dad (the reason I am a UM fan) when'd M lost in the tourney when I was a kid to UCLA. This staff does the right thing and gets us where we need to be. Drop off the bandwagon now and don't jump back ok in March
November 21st, 2015 at 12:34 AM ^
Michigan wasn't winning this game.
November 21st, 2015 at 1:23 AM ^
literally saw the same replay they were watching as they watched it. was clear to everyone in the front row and the scorers table
November 21st, 2015 at 2:28 AM ^
I might be totally wrong here but.....It looked like the ref just to the left of the shot actually showed a 3 point signal when the shot was taken! If you noticed after the refs reviewed the shot, they walked away holding up 2 fingers. As in, it was a 2 point shot and not a 3 pointer. So, i kinda wondered if they even reviewed a shot clock violation and was actually looking to see if it was a 3 or 2 (which is was clearly a 2 by a couple feet).
November 21st, 2015 at 8:38 AM ^
They were terrible!
