Replay Alert: ESPNU playing UM vs Indiana, the #20 game of 2015. What's your top?

Submitted by denardogasm on

Title says it all.  Game is on right now on ESPNU as part of their top 25 games of 2015.  Just saw Rudock finally drop one in the bread basket for Chesson on the first offensive drive.  Was a little surprised to see this game in the top 25, but it did have a lot of drama.  Makes me wonder:

What other Michigan games do you think will be in the top 20?  Unfortunately the MSU game will be at least top 10 if not top 5.  Florida is likely our consensus favorite but won't be on the list because homerism.

Michigan-Minnesota and Michigan MSU had pretty classically thrilling endings that a neutral fan would appreciate even as they leave a bad taste in our mouths......

#1 MSU v UM #2 Iowa v MSU #3 UM v Minny #4 Indy v UM Beyond that, there really wasn't any real drama in-conference, imo

I'm betting MSU/OSU gets picked, even though that game featured both sides playing terribly, just because it was a last minute, close game between two top 10 teams.

UM vs Minnesota was pretty thrilling. Should be in the 10-20 range.

MSU will very unfortunately be in the top 3.

I'm fine with it, but I'd argue that M-MSU was objectively a better game than GT-FSU. If the kick six hadn't already happened then maaaybe, but the ending of GT-FSU was the equivalent of them blowing up the death star again at the end of Episode VI.

I was at this game. At times, I didn't quite feel as bad as I did while getting blown out in Happy Valley with Rich Rod, or being blasted by ND during Hoke's last year, or the Alabama game in Jerry World... it kind of felt similar to being at the Rutgers game right before the fans stormed the field just after beating us. Man, I've been to some horrible games. Anyway, I almost started to regret going to this game in the 4th quarter -  it felt like the game lasted about 6 hours - but what a finish. I didn't take many pictures of the game - I was too nervous - but for some reason I took a pic of the scoreboard when we were down by 7 points with 11 seconds left. No pics again until we celebrated the win. I stuck around the stadium to congratulate the players along with all the other Michigan fans that stuck around. Also got some good pics of coach Harbaugh as he came out to the endzone to do some interviews. It sure felt great to be at that game - I never could've predicted how great a win was going to feel that night.

The 2010 Penn State game was definintely one where you knew we had very little chance unless we ever decided to make a stop on defense (I think we might have finally made a stop late, then the offense didn't produce the next possession.   A lot of yards gained, but always playing from behind, because the offense had to be perfect and wasn'tt.

The 2012 Alabama game looked to me like one where we our coaching staff conceded it before the game.    It was always going to be a very, very tough game to win, but we gave ourselves no chance with the gameplan.  Alabama was definitely better than us, but I think we should have been able to stay within 17.   I think our 2012 team was actually a lot better than people give it credit for - but the scheduled was the toughest in the nation and all the tough ones were neutral/road games.

The 2014 Notre Dame game never really felt like a blowout despite the score.  I don't think they ever drove the field to score and most of the points where short field drives.   Outgaining a team but still losing 31-0 probably means short fields and turnovers.  Ugly performance, just a weird game.

2014 Rutgers game - think the Big Ten gave them that one.  As bad as we played, we were pretty much robbed of chance to have a new set of downs, a short way from the endzone.  I know people will say, We deserved to lose because of how we played, no we deserved a chance to play that one out and the official incompetence didn't let us have it. The Darboh play was a catch and we were about to win.  The fact the correct call was made, then switched, and then "confirmed-which is laughable to say the least.

The 2015 Indiana game is one where once you seeing how the game is going, you just hope to win.  It doesn't matter how, you just want the win.   It was important in the sense that we could play bad and win.   RR seemed to be on a we will win games when we do instead of we MUST win now.  Hoke became the same way in 2013 and 2014 - we will win when we are older/get the next batch of recruits.

The importance of this win to me was it enabled us to visually show recruits the WIN, instead of having to explain away a loss (we were close, but....)

We needed Results in terms of WINS now - we didn't have to be great, we just needed wins.   RR never seemed to get the job done in this regard, (he may have eventually. but it would have taken way too many years) and Hoke in 2014 showed that he couldn't even win basic games with top 5 recruiting classes.

Hoke played with a "Rose Bowl is all that matters" attitude.  I will not say we would've won if he let Denard be Denard, but I think it would've been a game for a longer period of time.  I also think Hoke may have let Denard be Denard if they had a capable backup, but they decided to throw him at WR.

2012 was an odd season.

I honestly think that the 2012 team was better than the 2011 team.

The 2012 schedule was the hardest schedule the University of Michigan has played in decades. We had to play the season ending #1 team at a neutral site, and the #2 and #3 teams on the road. And we were very close to winning both of the latter two games. Our offense's failures in the second half of 2012 OSU will always haunt me, just as our massive amount of turnovers in Notre Dame 2012 will always haunt me.

Beyond that, we had a night road game at a solid Nebraska team in which our QB was injured and Brady Hoke's horrible lack of preparedness was exposed.

Then we lost an extremely close game to a top 25 South Carolina team.

2012 also only had 6 home games (2011 had 8 home games).

Rabbit21 said my thoughts. Won't be shocked to see UM - MSU #1. Minnesota will be top 10ish. I'm probably forgetting a major SEC or bowl game that was as exciting for the top spot, but since ours happened in a big rivalry game with playoff implications it'll take the top spot. Iconic play every college fan knows by now decided the game and it didng bounce our way. Also, ESPN loves to rile up the large Michigan fan base heading into the season and gain ratings.

I doubt MSU gets #1. The game itself was not the most exciting. Heck, even at the end of the season, the play itself was #2 on ESPN, #1 being that Duke ending with 97 laterals. As far as exciting games....MSU/osu, bama/Clemson, Clemson/ND all come to mind as more exciting games. I get the last play and all, but if I'm voting on a greatest game, UM/MSU just doesn't make my top 5. Those three were just off the top of my head.

I liked the BYU and Florida games the best. I enjoyed watching the offense in the Indiana game, but the defense getting gashed was hard to watch.

BYU was just a little bit better than Northwestern since it was a bigger surprise... by NW we knew we had something, at least on the defensive side.

Florida stands alone for me in that their defense ought to have been as good or better than anyone we'd played, plus we had that bad taste in our mouths post-OSU.  It would have been easy to return to that RR/Hoke pessimism, but by the second quarter I was feeling good again.
