Remembering Elmer Gedeon
when I saw the title, but unfortunately jumping to the conclusion that another of our young men lost his father too soon. So thanks to the OP for posting a story about someone who was a part of Michigan's legacy but whose name and story are unfamiliar to most of us.
Would be a wonderful postscript to find out that Ben is related, however distantly.

That era of baseball was really interesting with the players that left to go fight and then returned to play once again. It is truly special of those men to leave the safe environment of playing the sport they love to go defend our country
Correct me if I am wrong, but most of those guys were drafted into service correct? I remember some stories of MLB players enlisting willingly, but I believe most were drafted.
