Relative Speed

Submitted by ShockFX on
I didn't feel like posting this in the last thread, but I wanted to make a key point here. Jeremy Gallon, in his high school videos, does not look as fast as others do in theirs for a key reason: he's playing in the top division in Florida, the players there are fast as well. I don't think anyone bothered to point that out in the last thread, but it's an important comparative point. Because of how shitty high school camera work is, and how it moves with the player a lot, it's hard to get a fix on his relative speed to anything but the other players, who are also fast. That said, he looks fucking awesome to me and I'm glad he's coming to AA.

to the end of the video when the camera is closer to the field you get a better sense of just how fast he is. not to mention a lot of that footage is from the game against panola (MS) which is a nationally ranked team. yet another thing to note. gallon never really leaves the field. dude gets tired.

a couple times where he was exploding past the secondary i really didnt see the problem, he's a strong runner too and there was that one play where he goes one way all the way to the sideline and he reversed the entire field and got a TD

The first time I watched the Gallon video, I wasn't very impressed either, but then I remembered that I wasn't very impressed watching Odoms' footage, either -- obviously he turned out to be quite an asset.

The video is pretty dark and poor quality. You've got a dark uniform, in a poorly lit field, with a bad camera. It all adds to the effect of making him look slower. For me, I look at how badly tacklers miss him. Guys dive at him, but not where he is, where he WAS two steps ago.
