Ref complaints? Dump 'em here.

In the interest of keeping redundant forum posts to a minimum, I'm starting this one where we can post everything refbitch worthy. I'll begin. I'm watching the Memphis-CSUN game (it just went to half time), and it's been pretty remarkable: these calls and non-calls are so egregious you'd assume that the refs had an agenda/were crooked. But when you realize that one moment it's a missed 3-hop-travel call on Memphis and the next moment it's a missed forearm-to-the-face on CSUN, it dawns on you: these guys are too incompetent to be crooked. I honestly think that these guys are hired for the tournament on some b.s., handshaking, it's-who-you-know basis. Most high school referees are far more competent, so we know it's not a meritocracy. *exhale* I'm sure I'll repost here nearly every round.

I don't know what high school basketball you watch, but the ones in my area are far more incompetent. And really, meritocracy? That said, yes the ref's are horrible everywhere, sadly its become part of the game this season.

That's always been my biggest complaint about basketball (except streetball, of course) that the refs control the pace and outcome of the game way too much. it makes me sick. as long as they're consistent, though, i'm able to watch

I think you hit the crux of the problem - people always complain about "the fix" being in - it's not. NCAA refs are just roundly terrible.
