Recruits impression of the game

Submitted by MinorRage on

Per TOMVH on twitter "There were plenty of recruits watching that game. The ones I've talked to were beyond impressed. The word "awesome" was used a lot."

Any thoughts on who our next commit will be? I'd love it to be Dee Hart, but there's been so much drama I think it might be someone else. We have anyone coming in for the next couple weekends?

and are good in geometry and know their angles!

Bottom line is talk is cheap. Having the ones who haven't been on campus making UM as on of their officials is what will matter when they see how UM's program is run. The team isn't out of the woods yet but it is showing signs of maturity. I just want to see a D that hits instead of gives bear hugs.

...is that UM won and that's great. UM showed today that they can play poorly at many times and win. I also happen to remember a certain team going 4-0 and everyone thinking the worst was over and then the wheels fell off. I don't share your homerism but look at the team as a coach would and see where the team needs to improve so that the wheels don't fall off again. You and the other circle jerkers might not like my view points and that's fine but get off your high horse because I can surely bet you that RR and his staff realize they still have a lot of things they need to correct. So my advice to you is to go pickle your liver tonight and ignore what I have to write as I have long ignored you because you don't add a thing of interest to this board.

I think Hart, or any other top flight RBs out there can see there's a definite chance for early playing time if they're good enough at RB. I'd also be excited if I was a LB recruit, seeing all the opportunities Mouton and Ezeh had today to make plays.

because that's the same argument used over and over for many years now. Recruits don't exacly have the same view point as you or I. It's cold in Michigan and UM has some academic requirements that many blue chippers can't live up to. Now, having a better than expected season might make some take notice and consider UM where they normally wouldn't but there's always been opportunities at UM but the last two seasons have kept many a blue chip away.

It's been cold in Michigan and tough academically for 193 years.  THOSE are the arguments that have been used for many years.  But you're using them in a comparison of 2010 vs. 2008.

You really are ignoring the positive if you can't see how things might look differently to a recruit now.  Two years ago we maybe could offer playing time but kids want to play on winning teams too.

To throw out the weather and the academics is not an argument for this year's recruiting as opposed to years past, those are constants.  The variable is the success of the offense and prognosis for winning, which is decidedly more positive so far this year.

I'd think that kids would want to play on our D, but if you're an offensive skill player, you might hesitate to join the Denard show.  How do you impress a RB when he can see he might only get 5 carries a game?  Will a WR be excited to run 7 yard routes all day?  It's exciting football and I love the winning, but I'm worried about future offensive recruiting.

an RB capable of ripping big runs regularly, and an O-line that can open consistent holes (the o-line is good, but not GREAT. ND's D-line was excellent tonight), the RB's will get more of the carries. It's just what the zone read does. ND tried to stop us by stoping everybody BUT Denard, and it almost worked. Since it didn't, the next team will try to stop us by stopping Denard, which will open it up for everybody else.

They were trying to stop Denard...it just didn't work.  We had 532 yards of offense; 502 of them were from Denard.  We don't have a killer RB, but it might be harder to convince one to come touch the ball only 5 times.  Maybe we'll have a chance to work in some other players over the next two weeks of scrubby opponents.

I thought the same thing, but look at WVU the last couple years before we got RR.  Steve Slaton and Pat White worked very well together and complemented one another very well in  the same offense.  Could you imagine this offense with even more explosive firepower?

Other than Denard the RBs had 13 carries...I'm sure if there was RB worthy of carrying more he would. I'm pretty sure Coach Rodriguez would rather have 10 of those carries switch from D Rob to the running back if it'll keep the chains moving however Shaw/Smith have yet to prove it. Of the 2 I like Shaw more.

We need to find the next Noel Devine or Steve Slaton.  If that is Dee Hart (which I think it is) then that is great.  To have another big play maker would really be a huge lift to this offense and a huge lift off Denard's angelic shoulders.

but if I was a DB recruit, i'd think michigan would have to look really good. team on the rise and what's that? you say as soon as I commit I can be put on the two-deep for next year? sounds great!

Zettel, Dawson, Frost, Jernigan, Drew, Watkins, Hart and (oh please angry deity smile once just this once) HaHa, Crawford, Walls, Grant.  There's 11 names.  If Michigan could land more than half into this class in addition to the existing commits, I'd be beyond ecstatic.  That will probably require 8-9 wins and a bowl victory.  Michigan has started as good as it could to reach that goal.  Hopefully the momentum carries through the next 4 games and a couple of these guys make the commitment to create some positive energy towards the program for their friends also on the list.
