Recruiting: Zach Harrison to Announce Next Week

Submitted by MJ14 on December 11th, 2018 at 9:33 PM

5-star DE Zach Harrison will tweet out his college decision next Wednesday and fax in his NLOI. He isn’t having a ceremony and there will be no interviews, which is consistent with how he’s handled his entire recruitment. down to OSU, UM and PSU. https://t.co/WnlVMVq0gF

It's been reported that ZH didn't care for Urban. The combination of Urban leaving and 62-39 probably brought OSU back in play a little but I still think he picks us. The kid sounds like he really wants to leave home and we're obviously his best option. And keep in mind - as been reported several times here - he's not an Ohio native (from Chicago) and didn't grow up brainwashed like most Ohio kids.

I’d be holding my breath a little longer if I had any faith in the “star” system. In general, 5 stars prob turn out to be better players than 3 stars but how often does it pan out to be just the opposite? A 3 star turns out to be a terrific player on the field and a 5 star turns out to be a dud.

I’m of course hoping we get him because I’m sure he’s a good player but it’s not life or death. We’ll field another good team next year. Go Blue!

I've thought about this for a while. Since we only get 1 five star every so often, maybe they are over rated, we don't develop them, or when they wash out it really stings.

Maybe of their 5 five stars every year, one or two don't work out? I don't know, but it's worth a look.

Could be that some of our 4 stars are better than four star as well.

They also have depth--so the five star is brought in knowing he can, must develop. He's probably not treated very specially, whereas here a five star might be regarded as a king and feel privileged, not work as hard.

I don't know--but their successes are more than just "Dey pay dere players money drugs and cars derp"

Not holding my breath.. but he’ll be a legend in my heart if he really spurns the hometown team after the game we shall never speak of. Ultimately I think the amount of shit he has/will get from his friends and family have a sadly all too real impact on his choice.

The pressure he is feeling from friends/family is our main threat. The 62-39 fiasco was just one game although it did hurt us somewhat and took quite a bit of the aura off of Brown defense.

Also just read on a buckeye board that Philly.com (?) - never heard of them - that Don Brown interviewed for the Temple HC job this week. Can anyone confirm this or is it just more suckeye BS trying to sway ZH's decision ?

I think all those things bear out well for pulling a 5-star out of OH for UM...keep it on the down low and sign at the time of your announcement leaving no room to flip or let the home team try and steal you back.  All that said, I know we're making a good run on him, but I won't get my hopes up until I hear his NLI is signed.  I'm assuming he's staying home until otherwise.

Interesting a hometown guy would announce his commitment to the hometown college via twitter.  Normally, that high school gym would be packed when he put on that hometown Buckeye hat and they would all sing "ohio" ... either he is going Blue or he is just f-ing with bucknut fans.

None of that is correct. He is a VERY quiet kid who by all accounts hates the recruiting process. He has said from day 1 there would be no fanfare or big parties when he commits. He just wants to announce it and be done with it.  Harrison has handled this in a very very mature professional manner. I'm not calling it either way right now but to assume he has a tell by how he is announcing isn't accurate. He has by all accounts leaned toward us but after our last game things have been really different.Urban leaving actually HELPS them because he wasn't that close to him and from what it seems like wasn't a huge fan of him. He has developed a strong relationship with Larry Johnson and reportedly likes Ryan Day. Larry Johnson is the best in the business and that is my biggest concern.

Full expect him to go to OSU.

The BPONE is strong, and absolutely overwhelming right now. After the defensive shitshow in Columbus, Daxton Hill de-commitment and rumors about Don Brown and Temple, it's just hard to get optimistic about anything related to the football team right now.
