Recruiting Roundup

Submitted by HHW on
In light of WTKA's podcast being delivered by the Pony Express, can anyone give a quick run down of what Sam said on his first day back?

Could someone post the URL of the podcast for us newbies? Love all the recruiting talk, would rather have a few big name recruits come to UM than anything else for Christmas

So small a turning The world grows older every day An ache, a yearning Soften when I hear you say All that I want, all that I want And when the cold wind's blowing Snow drifts through the pine trees In houses lights are glowing Likewise in your eyes that find me here With all that I want. Out in the harbor The ships come in, it's Christmastime It's Christmastime It's Christmastime.

Jonathan Hankins said today (regarding a talk with michigan coaches) that "They said they’ve got one open and they really want me, but if it gets filled it gets filled. But they need me and they want me so… I just said alright. I’m not too worried about competition if I go there.” So.. Josh Furman said he already alerted the coaches as to his decision, right? So if he told the Michigan coaches he was committing to Michigan, I'd assume they wouldn't go throwing around one last spot? Maybe I'm wrong here, that just concerned me a little. Thoughts?

I like your reasoning, but your math is a little off - I believe that if there's only one spot open, that means that Furman is a silent commit: We "officially" have four open, then you probably subtract two for Murphy+Grimes. That means we should have two left. But the coaches told Hankins there's only one left, meaning there's an additional silent commit. Most likely that's Furman.

Okay, I bit. I watched your son's film. He has bad footwork and bad mechanics. He doesn't have any zip on his passes. His release is too slow. His spiral isn't tight. He's thin. He's not extremely fast. He is an above average football player. He looks to have decent accuracy. But he's probably not deserving of an FBS scholarship. I've seen MAC quarterbacks play in high school, and he's not up to their level of physical talent.

There's always a chance. Just like there's a chance that when Alessandra Ambrosio comes out of her hotel room next door, she'll knock on my door wearing only a towel. If not, there's always that peephole I drilled this afternoon...

If you look at the film and have some objective comments as Magnus has contributed, then go ahead. But don't criticize one of our own who may have a dream that his kid could get into a winged helmet. Give the guy some respect. If I had a kid with talent, I would want to investigate it. MGoBlog should be a good safe place to do that. That said sir, why don't you be up front and just ask the question outright?

I think what Magnus is trying to say is if you can get him to put on about 35 pounds, grow a couple of inches, get his 40 yard fake time down about 4 tenths of a second, add some significant velocity to his passes, improve his decision making, and get his accuracy improved on the short, intermediate and long routes, you definitely have a potential prospect. That's the beautiful thing about our country: we can all dream big. Seriously, dude, have you watched DG's film? He played against the best in Michigan and Ohio and made them shudder. That gets Michigan excited: not some film of a 5 yard scramble or a wobbly dump off under pressure. For reference, I humbly submit a reel that probably got RR's attention, even with no arm highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2tpF2Xo1tI&feature=related What this has to do with the recruiting roundup, I have no idea.

Mr. Sullivan, I can most certainly understand why you are proud of your son. I am sure your pride goes far beyond the football field, into the classroom and the home. My son attended Michigan and received a varsity letter, a Bit Ten Championship ring, and Big Ten Academic recognition. He went to Michigan to get an education and did most definitely. My son was a walkon for the cross country team, met some wonderful people and had a great time. Cross country gave him options that football currently does not at Michigan. A number of his friends walked on the team. They were not superstars, just good athletes wanting to run for the Maize and Blue. RR has a walkon program, and i commend him for it. Your son could develop into a Michigan football player. I hope he does.i saw great potential in that video. More importantly, I hope he come to Michigan and is a great student. I hope he does come here. It is a wonderful place for young people to grow. See what happens. Is he interested in Michigan? One last note: The hostile and demeaning comments I read on this board in response to your video are probably not from fathers with teenage sons, never graduated from Michigan (and thus lack social graces), or simply do not understand that football is a game and only a game. In the real world and not the world of football fantasy that television has created, we would choose the better student to attend a university and not the better football player, whoever it may be. I am all in favor of the student athlete, not in name only, but in reality. My son was one and I am very proud of him as your are of your boy, Mr. Sullivan. Let's hope your boy turns out to be a fine student and a fine athlete. If he does, he could turn into a Michigan man before you know it. Best of luck to him and to you. Enjoy these moments with your son while they are here and he has his life in front of him. Dan, Sr. of Connecticut

Constantly posting unsolicited highlights of a quarterback that does not fit the offensive system in place is an example of "social graces"? You realized you pointed your internet machine towards a football site, and must have inadvertently wandered away from www.mykidisthenextbestexampleofwhateveritisthathedoes.com But i wouldn't know that cuz I don't have kids.
