Recruiting

Submitted by gremlin on
I'm annoyed that some people haven't realized that we've offered way more kids at this stage of the game then we normally do. Obviously RR has a different recruiting strategy than Lloyd Carr. Yes, it's not as classy, but it's more competitive. I don't believe it's RR's fault, rather I think the NCAA should take the blame. That being said, obviously all of these kids who have committed won't be around come signing day for various reasons. I'm tired of people saying otherwise. One more thing. The offer letter is conditional. It pends on the players performance on and off the field.

Patterns the past few years in recruiting make it obvious that not everyone who commits to a program will remain at thus program. It's statistics and probabilities not every kid will remain. Determining who is all guess work and speculation, but to say someone will decommit I think is obvious.

Saying one of these kids will decommit, is possible, maybe even likely. It is not obvious. Many schools will have a year with no decommits. Saying it is obvious that one of the first 12 to commit will decommit is not obvious. It's obvious that these kids are good enough at football to earn a full-ride scholarship to the University of Michigan. Very little that happens in the future is obvious.

But it is becoming a pattern more kids all across the country at every school are decommiting. Many schools will have no decommits, but on that more schools will have decommits. I'm not saying these kids aren't good enough to play Michigan football. It's been said many times on this blog before these are 17 and 18 year old kids and they do change their minds. IMO Michigan will have two people decommit. I'm not saying who because obviously I don't know. I can speculate who while looking at depth charts and possible commits. Look at IF! Prater commits do you think players like Williamson and Dileo want to ride the pine for 4 years? I assume they are not playing over Stokes, Miller, Stonum, Odoms, Gallon (if he qualifies), and Prater (if he commits) Jackson is a legacy and we're lookin good for this 2011 kid outa Saginaw,Deanthony Arnett. (from what I've heard on other sites)

I was referring to the above post, that although it might happen, it won't OBVIOUSLY happen. I never said that we won't have decommits (in fact, I agree that it's likely), I simply agreed that it isn't obvious that it will happen, as the OP explicitly stated. Some people need to read WORDS. They can be crucial to so many posts.

WolvinLA: I misread your post, when I read it I took many schools won't have commits as you saying Michigan will not have a decommit this recruiting season when in fact that was not what your were saying at all. Gerald R. Ford: yo, what the dileo? needs be trademarked and soon!

But yoy have to look at where these kids play or will play. Prater is outside, as is Stokes, Miller. Gallon, Odoms, and Dileo will be inside. williamson can play both sides of the ball, as can Robinson. At this point, I don't see any of pur current commits leaving eve if UM picks up another WR. UM has no proven WRs right now that a recruit would be looking at sitting behind. UMs depth is completely wide open.

You want secondary? Fine Marvin, Cissoko, Warren (who may leave early?) Vlad, Turner, Hawthorne, and possible commits from Cullen, Mathis, Knight, and even possibly Anderson, Wood, Boyd and Hicks. (don't say it cuz I know someone wants to. I know we won't get all of them!)

I've heard his name in the list of top Michigan kids in 2011. Exactly how good is he and what are our chances? Who are the other top overall kids in our home state for that class and how are we looking for them? I only ask because YOU MUST RECRUIT IN STATE TO DO GOOD IN FOOTBALL. STATE FANS TOLD ME SO!!!!!

Arnett will be the top WR in Michigan next year, and the kid is very legit. He's been fantastic at wherever he has camped at. Arnett grew up a fan of Oklahoma, so we'll see how his recruitment plays out. http://www.detnews.com/article/20090604/OPINION03/906040436/Saginaw-WR-… Lawrence Thomas may be the top player in the state next year though; he's a stud MLB who's gaining the interest of many top programs. Unfortunately he's in a MSU feeder school, and I've heard he's a MSU lean at this moment. It'll be a battle for him.

I'm pretty sure if you read this blog somewhat regularly that you realize that we've offered way more kids than in years past. What's your point?

of who won't be here? Enlighten us less knowledgable football minds. Could the number of offers possibly be tied to coming off of the worst season in Michigan history. As for classy- I don't get where you are coming from. Would you not make a conditional offer to someone who you think can make your team better? Once again remember you are coming off of a 3-9 season. Or do you hold back offering even though your team lacks the athletes suitable to run your schemes? What a dilemma! Better yet, why am I even wasting my time responding to such a vague post that contains no facts that haven't already been stated over and over and over and over and over.........get my point.

What are we supposed to respond to? Yes, everyone on this board pretty much knows we are offering more at this stage than in previous years under Lloyd Carr, and yes some kids probably won't fulfill their commitment to play at UofM. Not many people are disputing those statements. Sry you are annoyed I guess...

He's just mad that people are disagreeing with his statement in another thread that Rodriguez will flat-out pull offers on committed players if they get too many commitments at a particular position. Apparently, creating a new topic to reiterate the same points will cause everybody else to change there stance, or something like that.

I think the game has changed and everyone is offering more recruits now. Also, we now have a lot more access to information, which publicizes offers that may have slipped under the radar in the past. It might be interesting to know how many offers a team has to make to actually get a recruit to sign with them. To use a grossly oversimplified example, if the average blue-chipper has ten offers, then the average team would have to offer ten kids to get one to sign. Or, if the average kid has a "top five" by June, then it would take the average team being in five "top fives" to sign one of them. We all know UM is definitely NOT an average team, but they still do have to make a lot of offers to get enough kids to sign. I'm willing to trust that RR has the situation under control.
