a reason for all of the DB recruiting...thinking out side the box possibly
Looking over the recruiting board for 2010 something hit me. We are high on 4 defensive backs. They are all 4-4.5 star players according to brians guess. We are only recruiting 2 DT's. One is already commited (Guy and the other goes to Southeastern). I understand that the DT's are few and far between this year but maybe just maybe the reason that we are going for so many DB's is because we are planning to switch to the 3-3-5 defense. Fewer DT's are needed obviously and a ton of D Backs and inbetween players, like we have recently recruited, are needed. Players that have size of linebackers or saftey's but are quick. I know we are kind of thin at DB this coming year as well, but you never know. I'm just throwing a crazy idea out there...
I remember Rod stating during the search that we will remain a 4-3 base defense, and Robinson has repeated said we will have both 4-3 and 3-4 fronts. Never any mention of the 3-3-5 at all. I don't see why they would be lying to us, or why Robinson would have been hired to run a defense with which he has no experience.
The 2010 recruiting season has just started (unless you're Texas)--there's still plenty of time to identify and offer DT's, though the class is light on them.
Otherwise we wouldn't have been actively recruiting and hoping that Graves and Jones would stay committed, plus the public comments re: keeping the 4-3.
it's much more likely that we need corners and that's the reason we're recruiting corners. but then again i'm thinking inside the box.
Don't overthink it, fellas... Rich's gotta stock the shelves.
We're not switching to a 3-3-5. At least not while Greg Robinson is here.
Yes. Yes, you are throwing a crazy idea out there.
In other news, I think we've offered so many running backs because we're going to start running the wishbone.
