Rashan Gary's mom has a leader ... But she won't say who

Submitted by BlueInDallas on
I was just watching the interview with Rashan and his mom during UA practices. His mom first told a story about how Harbaugh was so impressed with the M food court during Rashan's visit that he left Rashan and his mom to go explore it. Rashan's mom thought that was funny and said she really likes Harbaugh. She then stressed over and over how much academics mean to her. Finally, they were asked if they had a leader. Rashan said no but he said he is down to 5 schools. Rashan's mom said it's really down to two schools and admitted that she has a leader but can't say who. Given her stance on academics and her clear comfort level with Harbaugh, it's clear to me she wants Rashan to go to Michigan. Rashan may still be debating between Michigan and one other school. Listen to your mom Rashan!

The NJ catholic schools are region powers and play in a separate parochial league from the rest of the public high schools. Players are recruited and given scholarships to play football at these private high schools. Often these teams also travel the country to play top teams in FLA, TX and CA. Paramus was historically the third best in the league - behind Bergen Catholic and perennial power Don Bosco. When Partridge became head coach at Paramus he set out to change that order and he did - how ? Excellent recruiter and mentor, hard-nosed LB type guy who is real to these kids. Partridge convinced Peppers to transfer from Don Bosco in Jabrill's sophomore year. The rest is history and Paramus became the top team during those years. Peppers brought other guys with him. Call it the Partridge/Peppers pipeline which is now flourishing for UM.

I agree with your points about the Partridge pipeline.  However, growing up in the same county in New Jersey as Paramus, PC was not traditionally a powerhouse program and I think it has enjoyed success recently.  St. Joe's in Montvale was probably a top three program with DBP and BC.  This does prove your point that Partridge built PC into a what presently is a perennial powerhouse in the state.

I've gotten my hopes up, in fact, I'm to the point where I think it's in the bag. I get folks not doing it, I remember there were still folks who didn't think Harbaugh was coming until the first spring practice. The reports, the press conference, the tweets meant nothing until they saw him on the field.

That said, there's too much pointing Michigan's way on this. Gary and Nordin would be the two highest if I had to give confidence points and I'd put Gary higher only because I suppose we could not take Nordin (even as a greyshirt) for some reason.

This doesn't feel like a Treadwell or McDowell or any of that. Everything is saying Michigan on this one...and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders that isn't going to go for the SEC bagman when he comes.

I never say anything is set in stone, no guarantee...but from everything I hear, read, etc. - Gary to Michigan is it.

Lavert Hill and Jonathan Jones are in that "then why didn't you commit" category like Terreance Davis was in (who everyone now concedes to Maryland). Hill and Jones give me pause because there's no reason for them not to be commits if they wanted to come...especially knowing Long (CB) and Jackson (LB) are out there at their position.

Delance feels like it's Michigan becase Davis to Maryland. But he's a Texas guy and it's been a 2-3 team race for while with Texas and LSU.

I don't feel comfortable about any of the TEs or Connor Murphy.

Dylan Crawford feels like he's coming to Michigan only because he can't go to Oregon, which sucks, but whatever...we'll take it right? Pie Young feels like (to me), he wants to come to Michigan, but Crawford is in his way.

My confidence rankings would go...(in reverse order as far as points)

  1. Gary
  2. Nordin (greyshirt)
  3. Crawford
  4. Delance
  5. Jones
  6. Long
  7. Hill
  8. Young
  9. Allen
  10. Jackson
  11. Levi O
  12. Murphy

I probably forgot someone.

To be clear, Rashan was not the one talking about academics. That was all his mom and she said it a few times. She wants him to get a degree so she wants him to go somewhere that he will have academic structure and tutoring to make football work on top of academics. She really seems to be involved in a good way and is trying to see through the double talk and the real talk. Michigan should stand out on that front. I'm sure Rashan wants to get a good degree too because he seems to be raised well, but he was talking more about the food. So, good thing we have a killer food court. Who knew?
