Rashad Knight Update

Submitted by TomVH on
I spoke with Rashad Knight tonight, and he was ecstatic about his visit. He said the visit was WAY better than what he expected, and he could definitely see himself at Michigan. Knight had concerns going into the visit about Rich Rod's job security, and he told me they were more than answered. He feels comfortable now with the coaching staff. The whole time he seemed in awe. He still has two visits to Rutgers and Ole Miss left, but I think we sky rocketed to the top of his list with this visit.

Anyone remember Steve Martin's old joke about how he was writing a book on how to become a millionaire? First step? Get a million dollars... Get the commitments from both kids first. The coaches know exactly how many scholarships they have to give. Every football office I've been in has a big white board with position-by-position breakdowns of offers, where they think they stand, who has committed, etc. They're usually color-coded by have-to, need-to, want-to style priorities. And when it gets down to crunch time, if a school has limited spots left (especially when it comes to specific positions), they will usually tell kids something like, "We've got X spots left and if player Z commits, we're done with your position." I even covered a scenario where a school got four commitments from four top-50 basketball players within 45 minutes of one another. They only had three spots open and they told the fourth guy that they couldn't accept his scholarship. (the postscript to that one was that the last guy in the door only averaged about seven points a game for his career and was a huge disappointment. The guy who had to go somewhere else scored over 2100 points in his career, averaged about 20 ppg, and was one of the better players in college basketball for three years.)
