QB Commit Wilton Speight: Accepts Invitation to ESPN Under Armour All-American Game

Submitted by Indonacious on February 19th, 2013 at 1:24 PM

According to the twitteresphere, Speight is going to be part of the under armour game this year.

This should calm some of the anxiety regarding him as a prospect, as an invite this early bodes pretty well for his skills and rankings (all of the participants were top 10 qbs last year). Congrats to him!

Nice Job Speight! Just remember that you can not pick a number that a walk-on wears.  You might want to transfer.  Oh, and we only recruit five star sugar daddy QB's and super stealthy undervalued recruits at Michigan.  We trust our coaches, even though they can't call a very good game.

Ever notice since ESPN has had recruiting pages for certain school that commits for those schools get invited to the UA game?  Sure they are power house programs, but I feel like there are polotics behind who's invited.

This just confirms that there are a lot of people who don't know how to evaluate film. All I kept hearing was he didn't have a strong enough arm. I watched his film and don't understand how you could come to that conclusion. I highly doubt that Borges would want a QB that couldn't throw the ball hard enough.

has built a net career earning millions of internet dollars looking at highlight film and being able to discern everything from motivation to and including throwing distance.

Or I have half a brain.

Feel free to check out this video, which shows that college seniors Joe Flacco, Chad Henne, Matt Ryan, Colt Brennan, and John David Booty threw the ball 74, 67, 62, 60, and 60 yards, respectively, on an ESPN broadcast.

But hey, it's always possible that a high school junior throws the ball farther than a Super Bowl-winning quarterback who's known for a rocket arm...

UA invites the obvious studs but then pretty much goes off of where a kid is verballed or who is after them. IMHO, Speight isn't selected already without being a Michigan commit.

Yep.  If you look at the Under Armour game roster, the vast majority of players are headed to USC, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, etc.  There are a couple from Fresno State or Hawaii, but the majority are headed to powerhouse schools.  If Speight weren't committed or even if he had committed to Virginia or N.C. State, I doubt he would have the invitation right now.

I find it interesting that without playing a down of their Senior Year these guys are already selected to these games...what if they have a terrible senior year?  Do they get yanked from the game and lose their invitation?  Just seems WAAAY early for these selections.

Regardless, it's good to see a UM recruit get some attention...Congrats!
