Purdue - NCAA.org Stats

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on
So I'm a big fan of the NCAA's statistic pages per team. I was looking through Purdue's stat page. Couple of notes that stood out to me for whatever reason:
  • Purdue is second in the BigTen in total offense. They're 2nd in rushing and 2nd in passing yards per game.
  • That said, Joey Elliot is 11th in passing efficiency.
  • Aaron Valentin leads their offensive unit in scoring and all purpose running. He's second in passing yards. I'm assuming this is due to a large number of screens.
  • Ryan Kerrigan leads the BigTen in sacks/game. He averages 1 per contest, which is tied for 9th in the nation.
  • Jason Werner is their top tackler, and averages 1.6 tackles for a loss per game. That's tied for 10th in the country.
  • The pass defense is a bit better than their run defense. The run defense, statistically, is slightly better than Illinois. Make out of that what you will.
  • Their offensive pass efficiency is 2nd to last in the BigTen.
  • They have fumbled more than we have (14 to 11). They have also been intercepted more than we have (10-7)
  • Punt returns are basically a wash between the two teams, both around 9-9.5
  • They average nearly 7 yards less per punt than we do.
I'll encourage you guys to go around and sort through their page for yourselves. There's probably a few other things I missed that are probably quite interesting to some of you.

I was able to attend last weeks Purdue-Wisconsin game and Purdue looked pretty awful. Their receivers dropped around 7-10 balls and John Clay ran on them at will. If Minor is at all healthy, he should be able to have a huge game.

The stat that interests me the most is their higher number of turnovers. As was said in the Wed presser. We need to create some turnovers bad. None in 3 games is atrocious. Nice post. Thanks. Where did you go to get these stats? I would like to check it out for other teams as well.

I literally do not know what to make of these stats. On the one hand they seem to have a powerful offense, which has those numbers despite a rather nasty nonconference schedule (Oregon, Notre Dame). On the other hand, it seems like they need to HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL more than we do. I might have to put Benny Hill on my ipod and listen as I watch the game this saturday.

I've been saying that for his entire career. Between Minor and Brown, I can't remember as talented a duo of Michigan RBs who've spent as much time on the bench with injuries. A stiff breeze would endanger these two.

they've had great games and not-so-great games. I'm really glad this game is in Ann Arbor, but I must admit I have no idea what will transpire on Saturday.

Purdue had some really good games early where one crippling turnover turned the momentum and the Boilermakers never could get back into the game. Their win against Ohio State would have been the same if Pryor hadn't turned the ball over 3 times himself. He gave them second chance after second chance. I was trying to say how good of a team they were even before that game. Then they went and were shut out by Wisconsin. Kind of muted most of my argument.
