prototype M football jerseys created by a fan

Submitted by mgolf4 on February 28th, 2011 at 8:07 PM

Here is a link to some prototype uniforms for football that a fan seems to have created: http://umgoblue.com/talk/Concept-Michigan-jerseys-m163569.aspx

I picked up the link following Stonum Woolfolk and Roundtree on twitter. While they seem to like the idea of changing the uniforms, I am a traditionalist, at least with regard to our home uniforms. Anyway just thought it might be fun to discuss. The fan's name is Tom Summers and a link to his twitter can be found here ---> http://twitter.com/#!/t_sizzle7494

Also, if someone could just embed these photos, that would be much appreciated.

edit/ Here are links to the individual prototypes. The guy must have used a Nike model since he forgot to remove the swooshes from the shoes and gloves.

I'm going to guess that Hoke would say no, but as for my two cents, I kind of like the idea for the white ones, I don't really like the blue ones, and the "maize" one is hideous. I'd kind of like M's jersey to be streamlined a bit, but I'd prefer the current, traditional ones over the ones posted there.

Let Nike ruin jerseys and people like Ohio State do that "Oregon-style" crap.

That kind of stuff is for middle-schoolers.

Don't mess with the uniforms.

I'm less conservative than the average fan.  If it helps get kids exicted about coming here and isn't hideous (and the white/yellow one is hideous), I try not to get too worked up about this stuff.

I'm much, much, much more interested in wins and graduation rates.

would choose a school/football program - or even "get excited" - based on the uniforms, let him go to Oregon.  That kid is obviously in dire need of psychological assistance.

Equally stupid are the freaks who base part/all of their decision on the shoe company associated with the school.

They all can get lost.

You know how much recognition the winged helmets have generated for Michigan in the past, right?

I bet there are quite a few players who first became interested in Michigan because of those winged helmets.  Were those young men stupid freaks in need of psychological assistance

Obviously, there are more important factors than uniforms (like winning), but lets not insult 18 year old kids who may actually care about what they look like and the brands they wear.

Call me crazy but I think these designs are ridiculously stupid.  I feel kind of bad saying so because the person who designed them probably spent a lot of time on them.  That said, my assessment still stands.

Yeah, the home ones should never change.  The away ones were kinda cool, not sure I want to change to them.

I actually think they were all cool in a novelty sort of way, like it'd cool to see in a picture, but not on the team while they're playing.

I love the story about Nike approaching PSU and telling them that on a 1 to 10 scale their uniforms are a 1 and PSU coming back, "How can we become a 0". I don't see Hoke and the University doing this except maybe for the spring game as others have stated (BrownJuggernaut) to sell the jerseys to fans but NEVER for real.

I'm old and change scares me.

From a merchandising/sales and general opinion of the jerseys perspective, I like them. I think these jerseys would resonate with certain demographics, which could help proliferate the Michigan brand a bit more. More revenue and more exposure is not a bad thing.

From a tradition perspective, absolutely not. Adidas could always make something ike this and sell it, but I don't see us wearing these on the football field. I definitely don't see Hoke letting that happen, especially since he has already said he has never tried to be cool. Helmet stickers before new jerseys.

I'm a tradition guy, so that's the side I tend to go with...

Adidas was willing to go the extra mile to accomodate the University's terms and also gave more money.  What's so great about Nike?

Frankly, Nike annoyed me with their "Football is everything" commercial.  It was totally antithetical to what the University of Michigan is all about: leaders and best not just on the field, but in the classroom and in the community too.

Plus, by buying Nike you're bankrolling Phil Knight and Oregon football.  I'd rather see the Ducks win the Pac-10 (or 11 or 12) than USC, but still.

may not meet acedemic standards.  However, it doesnt mean that he is wrong.  As a metter of fact, i agree with his statement.  Nike has better looking gear.  I hate Adidas ever since my HS had them years ago.  We all wanted Nike or LA Gear (dating myself)..
