Go to the link I posted earlier. It's slightly better resolution. Play clocks at :00.
September 19th, 2010 at 1:15 AM ^
Well there you go, that's why I said in that shot. Not trying to say it wasn't at zero, just commenting on that particular shot I was responding to still had 01 on the play clock.
Thanks for the better shot, I'll save it to my phone and gladly use it in response to any Spartys I encounter.

...spent less time waving at the kicker (and peeking into the backfield after the snap) and more time trying to, you know, actually cover somebody.

....is a very mediocre coach. That 4th Down play and the multiple delay of game penalties proved it to me. Crist is good though.
September 19th, 2010 at 4:03 AM ^
He's pretty mediocre to coach up GVSU, rebuild CMU after Mike Debord set the house on fire, lead Cincinnati to 10+ win seasons (The same school Dantonio had 4 and 7 win seasons at), and be the slam dunk HC choice this past offseason.
But after the MSU game, he's just fair to middling.
Also, I thought Crist looked pretty bad at times in the game. He was throwing constantly into double coverage. Sometimes he fit the ball into the window, other times he was picked or nearly picked.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:07 AM ^
I may be wrong, but I thought Irish fans were operating under the assumption that Weis recruited well and they just needed a tactician/motivator to get the most out of their talent. How long does the honeymoon last if Kelly continues to lose (or is it already over)?
September 19th, 2010 at 1:01 AM ^
Brian seems to have fallen into that misperception too.
September 19th, 2010 at 10:10 AM ^
I don't follow your logic...
September 19th, 2010 at 10:35 AM ^
Was a master recruiter that has stockpiled talent seen only at the likes of Florida. Brian has harped on how many great players Kelly has to work with coming in, and he won't have a transition. And frankly, none of that talent seems to be found on the field. At least, no more than on Michigan, or MSU.
September 19th, 2010 at 11:31 AM ^
After re-reading it, that should have been clear. I was still groggy. Thanks
September 19th, 2010 at 12:07 AM ^
1. Is the delay of game thing reviewable?
2. If it is reviewable, is it possible Kelly missed it because he ripped his headset off in aggravation before someone could tell him to have it reviewed? (if so that is awesome)
September 19th, 2010 at 12:07 AM ^
Is their bandwagon going to grow. If so, we can start calling them Wal-Martans.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:09 AM ^
...is better than I thought they were. But they did "let the cat out of the bag" on the fake FG, and won't be able to use it against Michigan if they need it.
The bottom line, though, is that MSU beat ND by 4 at home, while Michigan did it on the road. So, matchups aside, I still think Michigan is a better team than MSU. Plus, when you take Michigan's performance today into consideration, there is a chance that last week's Michigan/ND game took a lot out of both teams.
There are certain scheduling quirks I dislike, such as Michigan playing Wiscy the week before OSU a lot during the last decade or so; MSU getting ND after Michigan has softened them up the week before is one of them. But it does make it better when MSU thinks they are better than they are, loses to Michigan, and wonders why.
Hopefully, that is the case this year.

you're comparing the 2 games? Do you recall at all that Crist didn't play nearly half the game last week and they had Beaver Cleaver taking snaps?
September 19th, 2010 at 12:43 AM ^
Are you certain you are a Michigan state fan? You sound an awful lot like a domer.
But you're right, I definitely didn't switch over to Auburn - Clemson in the second quarter while that great matchup turned into a series of intercepunts.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:09 AM ^
I don't know about everyone else, but this picture makes me want to punch a baby. God I hate them. But for now, I'll think about BGSU.

"I'm Mark Dantonio. Field goals and braces are for pussies. Grr."

Watching Notre Dame lose in heartbreaking fashion two weeks in a row is awesome, and their next four games are brutal.
It will be great to see damefan1 break the last two down!
September 19th, 2010 at 12:12 AM ^
I'm not sure we'll see damefan1 for the rest of the season now...
September 19th, 2010 at 12:10 AM ^
than a "tainted" win for MSU that is also a heartbreaker for ND. It's the best of all worlds. The one perfect outcome.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:13 AM ^
No such thing as a tainted win. As another thread points to. A win is a win is a win is a win.
September 19th, 2010 at 10:15 AM ^
I'd rather it had been the other way around, with ND getting a controversial win, while Sparty cries about it. Oh well.

You're right. Great play. But not so, so gutsy. He obviously didn't think his kicker was gonna make it. So throwing it was the smart choice.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:12 AM ^
I don't understand why it is so confusing...THERE IS NO play clock in OT...this was stated in before OT even started. I am not a State fan but it makes Michigan fans look stupid when they are complaining about a delay of game when it wasn't a part of any play for either team.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:14 AM ^
There IS a play clock. There is no GAME clock.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:17 AM ^
I've never heard that before. Wikipedia says "The game clock does not run during overtime; the play clock, however, is enforced." Take it for what it's worth.
EDIT: Looks like Copey beat me to it.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:20 AM ^
There is a play clock and you are an idiot.
That is all..
September 19th, 2010 at 12:28 AM ^
don't sound....stupid....
I hate that
September 19th, 2010 at 1:08 AM ^
Wow. You really stuck your foot in your mouth with this post, didn't you?
September 19th, 2010 at 3:42 AM ^
Gotta love how fucking stupid this guy is. Possibly this is the one kid a year that State rejects from admission so it feels like a real college and thats why he isnt a State fan.
September 19th, 2010 at 10:18 AM ^
To foot-in-mouth-guy here, the tv announcers stated when OT began that there was neither a game clock, or play clock. Unless I'm just imagining it, which is possible since I was totally bombed and slipping in and out of conciousness by that point.
September 19th, 2010 at 11:23 AM ^
So they can take all the time they want before running a play in OT? In that case why not take 5 or 10 minutes before every play so you can make sure you are fully prepared!!
September 19th, 2010 at 12:12 AM ^
Predictions for what ridiculous proclamations Henning will make in his column on this game?

Lou Holtz just said they DEFENDED THE FAKE WELL.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:46 AM ^
There's no "s" in DEFENDED THE FAKE WELL.
"Caught shleeping?" He just didn't have enough saliva left.
September 19th, 2010 at 2:13 AM ^
Does Lou Holtz have a problem with the letter "s"??? I haven't heard anyone comment on it!
September 19th, 2010 at 12:16 AM ^
But Dantonio's interview at the end of the game proves how big of a self serving ego maniac he is.
"YEAH IT WAS A GUTSY CALL" he said with a huge shit eating grin on his face.
What a douche.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:20 AM ^
He really is. But at least he is consistent.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:37 AM ^
My man we see eye to eye 100% here.
September 19th, 2010 at 9:49 AM ^
He just won the game on a huge, gutsy call, and showed he was playing to win, not just playing to avoid a loss. He was obviously in a good mood, his players were feeling good, the crowd was going crazy. Lot's of reasons he would be in the moment.
But, he might be the world's biggest douchebag. So, this was probably more grist for his douche mill.
September 19th, 2010 at 3:00 PM ^
I hate defending him, but the reporter asked him what Brian Kelly said to him during their handshake. He was relaying that message and it seemed to me like he was somewhat upset at Kelly for saying that.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:16 AM ^
Holtz just said on ESPN that ND did a good job covering the play, they just fell down.
I don't think this guy sees reality in any way shape or form.
September 19th, 2010 at 4:21 AM ^
He picked Kent st. to upset Penn st. and gave some b.s. synopsis on why it could happen. Bottom line for his choice was by affiliation. The man is bat-shit crazy.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:17 AM ^
Lou is cracking me up right now finding a way to compliment NDon their effort on the final play. Guess what, Mark didnt think so.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:18 AM ^
Kelly post game comments, as well as Holtz's.
Kelly: 'they executed, we didn't, not a whole lot more to say.'
Holtz: 'It was well-defended and ND was ready for it, it was just that the two assigned ND players fell down.' or something to that effect.
