Positive Ty Isaac article from Baumgardner

Submitted by Amaizing Blue on

Pleasantly surprised to read this-i guess I incorrectly assumed he was out of the picture for next season, or so far in the doghouse he wouldn't find a way out.  Sounds like this season was a wakeup call for him, and he says he's ready to work hard and earn more playing time next season.  Hopefully that will happen, and we'll get "5-star Ty Isaac" for a season.  He had flashes, but he admits he made some mistakes that cost him opportunities.

Edit:  I didn't realize he has two years of eligibility left.  Even better news!  I will attempt to be more fully aware in the future.

He's got two good years ahead of him. Plenty of time for him to contribute. As long as he is sincere in his statement of a "wake up call," there's no reason he can't turn into the back that many of us hoped/expected him to be.

Hard work, perseverance and discipline can mend many broken fences.

If we've learned nothing else about Jim Harbaugh, we've learned that 5th seasons aren't a given.  Ty Isaac did his stock not an ounce of good this season and will have the next twelve months to prove his worth for the following 2017 season.  Frankly I was disappointed that Isaac didn't do better this year, I was really hoping he would be able to prove his worth as the feature back.  Apparently he either doesn't / didn't have the necessary skill sets or desire, or both.

Isaac has a tough row to hoe as he'll have to supplant both Smith and Johnson if he hopes to return for a 5th year in 2017.  By then both Higdon and Kareem Walker might have something to say about it.

Great news, thanks for posting Amaizing Blue.  Sounds like Ty has bought in, and is working hard to earn trust and carries from the staff.  Ty has two years of eligibiilty left and can still be a big time contributor to Michigan Football.

Many of us are assuming that he will transfer, and maybe he will, but it would be nice if he also had the same kind of determination that Ty is showing to come back better next year with this staff.  All the best for Derrick whatever decision he makes.

Two problems with that...Green is gone. And he's marshmellow soft when compared to a FB. De'Veon is the only RB that could reasonably make that transition - unless you consider Wyatt Shallman at RB, something I've never done.

  1. De'Veon Smith
  2. Drake Johnson
  3. Ty Isaac / Kareem Walker / Karon Higdon

that comes with learning life's lessons the hard way.  Entitlement is a very bad thing.  I wish the best for Ty in 2016 and hope he's the pleasant surprise we're all taking about a year from now..

I wish his words read better, but he sounds very immature still.  Read closely the words and he is indirectly making excuses.   Sorry but I don't expect him to be a contributor, because he still doesnt fully get it.

I'm reading the same words as closely as you are, and your reading comprehension needs a great deal of work.

"I didn't play as well as I needed to, and I obviously had some things come up," Isaac said last week in Orlando. "But I still feel the same way. Anything the coaches want me to do I'll do, and I want to do.

"It didn't go my way, but the team overall's had a successful year and I'm happy to be a part of that."

I'm only guessing because I don't put much credence in words - more of a put up or shut up guy - but when someone says things didn't go my way it is a pretty passive phrasing from an accountability perspective. I wouldn't read into it, but if you were inclined to, I could understand.

So I have a mindeset to believe Ty is inferring that expectations were not met.  Whether those expectations were all his remains up for debate.  Either way my mind tells me after reading his words that his perspective on those expectations has changed/shifted.  Likely to a more humble view.  Which in the grand scheme of life is great for Michigan's football team.  Yet even greater for this young man's character development!  Whether or not his physical abilities match what is needed to be 'the guy' remains to be 'seen'.  We will most definitely hear reports from winter lifting, spring ball and summer workouts that will either give hope and exciting anticipation or, Not.

Yeah, where does he get off passing off the blame to others like he does here: "I didn't play as well as I needed to, and I obviously had some things come up," Isaac said last week in Orlando. "But I still feel the same way. Anything the coaches want me to do I'll do, and I want to do." FYI, he says the word "I" 6 times in those two sentences. Selfish bastard... /s

I don't understand why he needed a year to "get to know the coaching staff."  The other players didn't know the coaching staff either, and they didn't have any problems.  I never understand when players say they're "glad to know what's expected of them." What does that even mean?  Give 100% effort, that's what's expected of you, and you don't need the coaching staff to tell you that.  If you're not the starter, look at what the starter does -- how he practices, how much time he puts in the weight room, etc.  Try to work harder and play tougher than him.

thank you.

he says "it didnt go my way"...      thats on him, that it didn't go his way.  figured id get negged, but one shouldn't underestimate, the predictability of stupidity.

if he matured, he'd have said things like "i needed to grow up"

it truly is incredible how many lemmings there are here.

You are really doing a good job of reading things the way you want them to sound.

"It didnt go my way" is a pretty innoucous way of saying things didnt work out the way he expected them to. Isaac then mentions how he is willing to work to change that.

Drake Johnson is a guy that could reasonably say "things didn't go my way", what with two torn ACLs.  Here's the thing, most people get a choice about things going their way, even Drake Johnson.  After he blew out his knee against OSU...hell, even when he lost the 2013 season with his opening KO knee injury, he could have dropped down the depth chart and lamented that "things didn't go my way" and nobody would thought the lesser of him.  He didn't.  By his own account he took one day off feeling sorry for himself following the OSU game, and then it was back making things go his way and getting ready for the 2015 season.

If Ty Issac wants playing time next year he'll have to beat out a guy that overcame real things that didn't go his way.  For the sake of Michigan football I certainly hope so, for I want the very best players on the field giving Michigan the very best chance of winning.

Drake's work ethic and attitude has been amazing and should be commended.

What Drake had to go through had nothing to do with CouldntGoFor3's comments about Ty Isaac.

Isaac says numerous times in the article that he knows he has stuff he needs to work on, and that he has to earn carries and that he needs to work hard.

Twice he says he is willing to do whatever the coaching staff needs him to do.

My point was that the it was odd how CGF3 was reading into things, and odd that some people seemingly want to turn Ty Isaac, a member of the UM football team who has nothing to bring dishonor to the program, into a villain.

Working his way back into this staff's good graces is a much faster track back to playing time than another transfer and yet another year off.

Backfield could be straight up loaded next year if Ty finds his rythmn

I hope he can put it together.  Other than the major fumble issues, I thought he flashed more signs of potential ability than any of our other RBs in the limited time that we saw him.  He's definitely faster than Smith but larger than Johnson.

are the main reason for his disappearance from the depth chart. Virtually all RBs will turn the ball over at some point in their career, and it's not normally something that gets them permanently benched by itself. I think the thing that got him benched was whatever was going on aside from game day; maybe his reaction to criticism of the fumbling, or something completely unrelated to football. Whatever it was, he's got too much potential to see it go down the drain.

that Deveon might make a better BJ Askew-type fullback, assuming we got Walker. It was an intrguing thought especially with Houma and Kerrige graduating. If we had Deveon getting a level of fullback carries that Houma was getting in Penn State and Florida games, then also had Isaac, Walker, Johnson and Higdon filling the tailback role, that would be something. Add to that, the prospect of Shallman contributing at the fullback as well, with K. Davis (if needed, burning redshirt) and Poggi also in the mix. That would allow Winovich to defintely move back to linebacker to provide needed depth there.

So good for Ty, he has two years of eligibility left and it looks like he'll be a welcome contributor, especially with Drake and Deveon graduating next year. He still has a chance to make an impact.

after watchign Smith in the bowl game I was really impressed with his running.  Maybe he was hurt most of the season, or the blocking was terrible most of the year, but Smith looked like a beast on Friday.  I was really surprised while watching him.  If he continues to play like that it will be tough to keep him off the field as a rb.

It just occurred to me...look at that subject line!! Given what Isaac is talking about in the article- a culture of clearly communicated, elevated expectations, there will be excellence in every position group.  I think we will start to see a new level of competitiveness that will really make the most of all of these recruits. Walker, along with all of the young men coming in will benefit from this culture and tradition of excellence. Who's got it better than us?!
