Tools Of Ignorance

...I reviewed the pictures in my phone. It wasn't Newsome. I was wrong. When I found it I tried to edit it before anybody noticed my mistake...but you already replied (shrug emoji). So, for other readers, I claimed that Newsome stood with assistance and was carted off while the offense rallied around him. When I zoomed in on my picture, I could see that it was Jeremy Clark's injury and Newsome can be seen in the middle of the group. NEG away folks.

This is a nice article but Chengalis uses the wrong form of effect/affect near the end. In this case she needed the word “effect” when Newsome says he wants to “effect change.” Effect means to bring about or to cause to happen. He doesn’t mean that he wants to change change, which is what the word affect would mean.

I’m not quite sure I️ get it! After reading such an awe inspiring event, or healing. The possibility of finding the mistake of an a or an e is very uninspiring! What if her work was done on a instrument which over corrects? It’s ok though. On a sports blog we get great story but,”hey Lady you’re an idiot!” Amazing! I️ think Marv, should call her boss and ask for the company to remove her from her position. Or maybe a demotion, should be considered. God Bless, Grant Newsome and his family!

Both effect and affect can be verbs as well as nouns.  And both as verbs and nouns they mean different things, but related things, which adds to the confusion.

Autocorrect can probably screw up one's intent, but I think most of us who know the difference still have to stop and think about it before we effect a boo-boo. Still shouldn't affect your appreciation of the article's subject matter. [Did I do that right?]

I’ve seen your style before! Yes VA you’re the best. If I really cared about my format that much I’d edit my entries. However, I️ don’t really give a() about if you can decipher where my commas are and if they’re correct. I’ve actually received my degree and I’m working on another one! Again, to put it in perspective this is a sports blog. I️ guess you could take a point for every misplaced comma! Lol

I should not have made this comment. I love Angelique Chengelis's articles and think she is an awesome person. Of course she should not be fired for a grammatical mistake, and the article about Newsome is inspiring.

However, why is it petty to think that a professional writer for a major newspaper should know the difference between affect and effect? It's a small error, but don't small errors add up after a while?

“Spring is the realistic goal,” Newsome said in a recent interview with The Detroit News. “That’s kinda been the goal for a while. Bowl practice would have been ambitious, very ambitious. It could have been close. Decided to delay it for a little bit. Really focus on making the leg stronger. We’ll see if my doctors let me go full or limited, but spring is a very realistic goal to be on the field in some capacity, Day 1 of spring ball."

Even if it is in a limited capacity at most, it would be great to see Newsome out there for the Wolverines one more time. Such a story deserves an ending which involves him getting to the field again if at all possible.

It's nothing less than a medical miracle and a testament to the advanced state of knowledge and practice in physical rehabilitation and therapy.

Good luck to the young man. I'm not expecting him to be the same but if he's able to even suit up and compete, that would be an accomplishment.

Not that he'll necessarily want/need it, but I would hope the NCAA would give him a 6th year of eligibility if he asks for one. He missed all of 2017, but the Wisconsin game was game #5 in 2016, so he just barely missed the cutoff for an injury redshirt in 2016.

But if I'm Newsome, if I have a shot to play in the NFL after four or five years of college, then I'm probably going to "take the money and run." In his situation I wouldn't want to spend too long in college and put myself at further risk without making a financial gain from my football skills.

Good Gotham; imagine if he makes it to the field again and gets injured... I'd bawl like a little baby.

Get healthy but stay safe, my friend. You've got many years to live after football.

and a great Michigan man.  Happy the injury did not happen at Purdue, as it appears time was absolutely critical to his recovery.  Judging from what happened this year with WS, if GN had suffered his injury there, he would be an amputee.  It shows how important great medical facilities are.

... all the angst about wins and losses for UM football. A great reminder that the players are people, not video game action figures, and the best result for them is not a great play, great game, great season, but a great life.

Go Grant. Go Blue.

Throughout his rehab is something I can only marvel at. He is a true inspiration for all of us and I wish him continued success in all he has in front of him. The future is bright for this young man!

Great news! Kind of get the vibe that he won’t be at full strength or close to it until 2019 though if he can’t really go at it until this fall and after 2 years off.

I can't wait to see him on the field eventually, even if he isn't quite where he was before.  What an inspiration to everyone around him.  It's hard to believe these doubters would send out social media posts saying he won't be able to come back.  What losers.
