Position coach accountability

Rich Rodriguez has taken a lot of heat all season and continues to for the poor offensive performance and output. Scott Shafer publicly took the responsibility for the defense (well, for those of you that believe that...). However, with the crappy performances of our 5-star stud defensive back (Warren) and our preseason first round NFL draft consensus defensive end (Brandon Graham), to name a few, is it possible that these position coaches may simply be crappy? Yes, Shafer was also the safeties coach, so it may HAVE been all his fault... But consider that Rodriguez may simply have elevated poor position coaches as well. Yes, WVU was a very highly ranked defense during RR's tenure there, but then again that was against the Big East. It may have simply been an issue of talent, but we know that the coaches that the players have the closest relationships to are their position coaches. The D-Coordinator and certainly the head coach get less personal day-to-day interactions with these players. My question is why aren't the position coaches held more accountable for the poor performance of our defense? This coupled with the fact that we require the new DC to mesh with the current staff and not allow him to bring in his own guys might not be aptly addressing the problem. Is it possible that RR's loyalty to his position coaches is hurting our team?
