Pickin' and Grinnin' - NFL Predictions+ Bowl Results
Mates,
Since the board seemed to like 'pickin' and grinnin' for the bowl games 2 days ago I thought I'd try it today to pick the NFL games + a bonus pick for the Oregon/ohio game. Remember you are picking with the points which means if Team A is favored by X points over Team B, your job is to figure out if that X pt margin will be overcome or not. Some gave me predicted scores (Auburn 34 Wisconsin 7, type of stuff) and that isn't what gets counted here. Also remember the favorite is listed first.
As for the New Years Day bowl picks it was amazing with the dozens of participants nobody got more than 3 of the 5 picks. That group was made up of: Muttley, Bombadil, Coach Schiano, Picktown GoBlue, Bleau, and tloc4865 (can't read my writing on the last one, sorry). Congrats.
So, the line looks like this:
Carolina 6 Arizona
Pittsburgh 3 1/2 Baltimore
Indianapolis 4 Cincinnati
Dallas 7 Detroit (YTD)
Bonus Pick:
Oregon 7 Ohio
Comments on how/why you picked who you picked are good too. So pick away....

1. Arizona - even with a 3rd string (MSU) QB, they are better than a sub-500 panther team
2. Pittsburgh - best game of the weekend
3. Indy - I have no idea why, but there you have it
4. Dallas - They are playing Detroit. the lions. better chance of winning powerball lottery than detroit covering the spread in dallas.
5. Oregon - heart pick, but give credit where due, ohio played a whale of a game thursday night and they just might get it done and cover the points in the process.
Have fun and go blue!

I honestly don't understand why Dallas is such a big favorite. They're a good team playing at home, but the Lions match up quite well against them. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Lions win by 10.
On the other games, I'll take the favorites.

Stafford is 0-16 against teams with a winning record on the road. That's why the line is where it is. Also GB was the only team Detroit beat with a winning record.
Carolina, Pitt, Cincy, Dallas, and Oregon

That may be true, but Tony Romo has a horrible record in the playoffs, and the Lions will have no issues getting pressure on him. Also, the performance of DeMarco Murray late in the year, and I'd assume Murray will need at least 150 yards for a victory.
After looking at everything, I really like the Lions chances. Taking them and the points seems like a lock.

win, but its....the lions. they will take dumb penalties, forget they have the single greatest receiver to ever play football, turn the ball over, do something catastrophically stupid on special teams, and some other bad stuff too upsetting to mention.

because Stafford took over a 0-16 team and of course the team will suck in his first 3-4 years. I hate when people reference his record against winning teams on the road. It's HARD to win on the road against winning teams especially when your team sucks in Stafford's early years with the Lions.

Yes but Stafford has been horrible at times this year. Toss in a playoff road game and he's certain to shit the bed. Oh and stop with the sidearm throws.

Arizona- Panthers don't deserve the playoffs
Baltimore- no Bell is a huge hit
Indy- the Colts destroyed the Bengals earlier this season, Dalton has been pathetic this year, Gio is still injured, Vontae will take AJ out of the game.
Detroit- the defense steps up and takes Demarco out of the game. The offense needs to play closer to its potential though.
Oregon- because please

They won the division so they do deserve to be in the playoffs. People went on about this about Seattle a few years ago and they went out and beat NO.

It's too bad Arizona had so many QBs get injured, because they would have been a shooin to win the Super Bowl. Carolina wins today though.
January 3rd, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
Carolina since AZ will only find the end zone via special teams. Pittsburgh because Baltimore cannot defend the pass. Indy because Luck will easily outplay Dalton. Detroit because Reggie Bush will dominate third downs.
and Oregon because they will not turn the ball over and percentages dictate they score 40+.

Damn Florida players are dropping like flies in this game.
Carolina - I hate Cam but unless Arizona comes up with a defensive score or two I can't see this being close.
Dallas is one of the hotter teams in the leauge. Thing is they do most their damage on the road. Detroit's QB can't / won't win a playoff game.
Indy will get by in a turnover fest.
Going with my heart and my hatred towards Pitt. and ohio state....Go Ravens and GO Ducks!!!!

Carolina - The Cardinals trajectory has been going the wrong direction the last month without a QB/RB.
Baltimore - Losing Bell is a big factor for the Steelers.
Cincinnati - The Bengals are playing good ball and their defense can hold down Indy just enough here.
Dallas - Going against my heart but Dallas has looked like they could be the team to beat in these playoffs.
Oregon - They got the defending national champs to quit early in the second half. Their offensive pace will too much to overcome. I think Jones will finally look like a third string QB due to an underrated Ducks Defense.

Carolina 24-14
Pittsburgh 20-17
Cincinnati 31-28
Dallas 35-24
Ducks 45-34

can't figure out exactly which teams you are picking against the points. So for instance if you say pittsburgh is only going to win 20-17, are you picking baltimore and taking the points?

Arizona -- Panthers will win but thats too many points to give against a good D.
Steelers -- Ravens barely have a secondary, up against Brown. And all streaks have to end sometime (eg Flacco hasnt yet lost a wildcard game).
Bengals -- for the win but I will take those points.
Cowboys -- feel like a lopsided score is likely
Buckeyes -- huge coaching disparity, the underdog status seems to suit them, and it will motivate Coach Jim.

So far I'm 2-0 with the Ravens and Panthers winning!

I did not mind OSU knocking off Albama, since I'm sick of hearing how they are the best college football team and how the SEC is the greatest!
