The perfect angle on “the call”

Submitted by Jamezz23 on

How can you deduce something that happened in a plane that you are at a severe angle to? Not to mention several yards away? By plane, I mean that geometrically, of course. This introduces Parallax, that things appear different when you view them from different angles. Or points of view. It's an optical illusion; you really need to see something down the plane of the 15 yard line to determine spatially where something is with respect to something else in that plane.

... who root for OSU, and we were texting a bit during and after the game:

One didn't think that OSU got the first down but was happy to take the win.

The other admitted, in general, that "the calls definitely went OSU's way," though didn't realize until after the game that the now-infamous spot was a point of contention.  He acknowledged that UM was the better team a majority of the game.

Don't know if that helps...

Why do we get such garbage views during the game? Of course no one is going to be able to overturn a damn spot from that overhead camera. There has to be some better technology available...

Here's the funny thing: ABC has that stupid hover-camera at the game, literally able to take directly-overheard video of every play. They used it on the opening kickoff to the effect that I couldn't tell who ended up with the ball. You're telling me nobody in the production van thought to position the camera directly over the line of scrimmage on that play? They have to have video from directly overhead that could end this discussion once and for all.

but we just need to get over it.  Let's move on.  Harbaugh is building this 1 block at a time.  We have finally reclaimed dominance over Sparty .  The Buckeyes time is coming. Nothing lasts forever.

to bitch about it for a few days.  It was an incorrect call.  Barrett was short.

Why be in a rush to 'get over it'?  We have 12 months to do that.

And the world needs to see a lot more of the photo in th OP (and a lot less of of the misleading poor angle, cropped, and rotated photo OSU is puishing out there).

Result of the game cannot be changed.

But football fans can be made aware that OSU was aided by an officiating crew full of OSU fanboys who denied Michigan the win with the proper spot on the phantom first down.

And I don't need any angles or lines to prove it, because his own blockers ass is the evidence.

He runs in to his own blocker, whose ass never reaches the 25 yard line.  He instantly falls backward after the collision.  Even if the ball was up against his chest....a foot more forward, he would still be short by a foot.

Ball in right hand, body stopped bfore the 25 by blocker's ass, and left hand reaching out 6 inches beyond the 25 yard line.

This is hardly close....its a good 1.5 - 2 feet short of the 25.

The refs marked the ball at the 15 and there was no clear evidence he did not reach the 15. I wish Wormley would of hit him hard a half yard before the 15 yard line. The what the hell happen to our defense on the very next play? We should have held them to a FG attempt.

There are only three feet in a yard and their QB got knocked backwards and landed less than a yard away. There's no way his forward progress was 1.5-2 ft. short of the 15. I wish everyone would just quit with this argument because the commentators and the rules analysts all thought the right call was made. There's no definitive proof that he made and none that he didn't make it. But there's plenty of evidence that we got screwed on at least a half dozen other calls. If we keep screaming about the one call that may have been correct then no one will listen to the complaints about the others that were way more blatant. I may be living in a dreamland but if enough noise is made about the poor officiating throughout the entire game, then maybe, just maybe, if an upset or two happens next weekend then the committee will take it into consideration when they choose a second team from the Big Ten for the playoff.

You forgot to include the referees from OHIO! Why don't you just personally accept,"that call!" Because ain't no way in hell I will! It's funny how people say you should focus on this because it's less obvious! We respect your opine but it's in the same vein and we agree to disagree on that call not being a deciding factor. In which Sir, in all actuality it was the number one reason we are having this discussion!

Huh? Delano hill had a free shot on Barret and he decides to drop his shoulder.. I agree the spot was bullshit.. but if Delano hill wraps him up and drives him back the game is over without question

Not making excuses, (I think he didn't make it and Michigan was robbed) but I think:
1) the booth only receives certain angles either from their own cameras or the TV feed,

I would hope there are time codes that allow them to sync shots simultaneously if not all the information is contained in one shot

2) I am not sure if that is the definitive shot of the moment his knee touches the ground or at the point of forward progress

3) while the angle above makes it pretty obvious the ball is not across the line because of his body positon, I don't know if the replay officials are allowed to deduce where the ball is from that- IOW they have to see the ball clearly at the point of forward progress

And for the poor, poor, Michigan fans that are tired of one more thread about the truth; become a BUCKEYE fan! This game was taken away from the young men, who gave their blood, sweat, and tears for all of us! And it sucks that; count it not one, not two, but three MF refs from the state of zip zero stole the game from them! We will NOT just get over it!!!

and I love it when people reveal who they are.  You're not even skilled at trolling.  You and your alter egos upvoting each other only demonstrates how threatened the OSU base now feels by Michigan. Sorry that you can't even enjoy your fraudulent victory!  That last sentence wasn't sarcasm, I feel pity for people like you.

We have the better team this season and some how those fucks still won!  Pathetic, we should be going to the B1G championship game and win into the national championship. It sucks potentially waiting a couple more years to be in the same place with Harbaugh players.

There will always be bad calls in sports. There is simply no way around it. Blaming a loss on one call in a game is petulant. A game is not won or lost on one play. There are many plays in a game that can be a difference maker.

Harbaugh had the better game plan and prepared his team better during the week but there were three critical turnovers. If those don't happen, there is no OT and Michigan wins during regulation. The most important thing to do in a football game, especially a rivalry game is to take care of the football. People can cry about the officials as much as they want but the turnovers is what lost the game.

OSU turned the ball over 4 times.  Missed FG are TO, Oyster.

One of our TO was followed by  Meyer panicking and calling for a fake which gave us the TD back that we had fumbled on the goal line.

Our TO actually cost us less than the Buckeye TO cost their team.  Plus by now everyone knows that our D stopped Barrett and the OSU officials rushed in to correct the situation.

You can feel good about that crap if you like.  In fact, please do, because the more overconfident you are, the better.

A game is not won or lost on one play.

And yet this one was.

If he was called short, game over and everybody is talking about how great Michigan is and how Ohio State made so many errors that cost them the game.

They are the ones screaming on Twitter and we are the ones telling them to get over it.

They are the ones calculating a thousand scenarios that will never happen that will sneak them into the CFP.

Their coach is the one venting at a press conference and ours is the one bringing home milk to his wife.

All on one play.  All on one call.
