Pat Caputo calls Michigan fan "jackass" on the air!!!

Submitted by Blue boy johnson on

Everybody's favorite whipping boy Pat Caputo, tells Michigan fans to enjoy one of the greatest performances in Michigan football history, and if you can't your'e a "jackass". Go Pat Go.

Caller Mousa from Dearborn Heights was doing his best Ultimate Quizmaster  impersonation, trying to be the voice of reason and clarity, in the midst of fan ecstasy over an epic once in a lifetime debut.

Pat Caputo has transformed himself from hapless idiot to a true sage of the football world IMHO.

This thread is for blueblueblue, who apparently loves these type threads.

In all fairness, he said that the caller was "an arrogant ass," not a jackass.  Totally different.  Totally.

Caputo really believes that Michigan Alumni invented the term "Walmart Wolverine," and makes it a point to ask virtually every Michigan supporter that calls his show if he/she went there (because otherwise, that person's opinion doesn't count), so pretty much everything he ever says about Michigan is null and void.

On my way home, I was half-tempted to call the show and ask why he just kept lobbing up softballs for Denard at that post-game presser.  Should've been asking how RR's lack of family values could be overlooked in light of the performance on the field that day.

You know, that is an interesting idea.  Except for the current Wolverines in the student section since their alumni status is still uncertain, I wonder what the actual percentage of persons in the stadium are UM alumni.  I would guess 20-30%, but if anyone has any real statistics on this I would love to know for say an average game.

Does it really matter? And is it any different than any other team/stadium in the country? People cheer for teams that they grew up supporting, schools where their friends/relatives attended, schools their friends hate, schools nearby their home, or even just because they like the teams colors. If they support the team the right way and don't bail during the rough periods, are they still less of a fan because of their alumni status? What if a WMU grad is a fan. Is he not as much of a fan as an alumni because of the status of the school? What about a Yale grad? Their school is just as good if not better than UM. Can they be a fan? Or what about a student who went somewhere else for undergrad, but UM for grad. Are they more/less of a fan? Sure, some people give non-alumni fans a bad rap because they clearly just supported the team because they have always been a winner, but I think overall the walmart wolverine, save-a-lot spartan, etc tags are a bit ridiculous.

I agree with you whole heartedly.  I am not a UM grad, yet I am a UM fan and have been since I was old enough to choose the athletic teams I wanted to support.  I have graduated 3 times from other institutions and although I have respect for them all, I am not an athletics fan of any of them because my allegiance was determined long before my college years.  Any fan of any team that feels they are better than other fans of the same team for whatever reason they choose is simply a fan of themselves and should hang a banner over their bed with their name on it.  The only exception to this is the fair weather fan that only supports when the team is up...I have to admit that irks me a bit and it is hard not to be judgmental in that instance.

Looking at the number of persons in Michigan attire I see when traveling the US, I would be willing to bet that only 1% or less of Michigan fans ever attended a class at UM or ever will.  To alienate these people would seriously errode the national fanbase and perception of the school.

yet I feel I was just as loud as anyone around me (section 20, row 94) and am proud to say not only did I have a sick to my stomach nervous feeling an hour before kickoff, I practically lost my voice by the 2nd quarter. Yet, there is a section of alumni who I can NEVER hear make sound ever, not even during the M-I-C-H-I-G-A-N chant.

Thank you for that comment.  As a CMU Alum people always ask me why the obsession with UM "as I didnt go there", well attending multiple games a year, getting up at 5 oclock in the morning to make it to tailgating by 7, staying the WHOLE game, learning cheers (Hockey).  I would like to think I do have a vested interest in UM.

With that being said I couldnt have been more happier for the middle aged man that tailgated next to my wife and I, as Saturday was the 1st time he has ever been to a UM game(and trust me more than likely he barely graduated HS let alone college), and I very much remember my 1st game and the look on his face said it all.

Go Pat go...???  Or, boo Pat boo....?

I'm very confused, but I presume Caputo told someone he was an ass, people laughed, and good late-night radio was had by all.

Like a self-destructive addict of like nitrous gas, I hung around for about 3 minutes past the Tigers post game to take in some Valenti and Foster.

You all throw down all these opinions, but apparently you are suppressing these nuggets of football intelligence that are the property of Mr. Valenti:

--The local media has been "disgraceful" for the way it is praising Michigan for it's performance against UCONN.

--UCONN was no good and he knew that going into the game as evidenced by his prediction of Michigan winning by 2 touchdowns all last week.

--If anyone thinks Denard Robinson won't get killed carrying it 29 times a game all season, they are "on drugs"

--Robinson should have been the starter last season and he was calling for just that. Overtly sayng that Rodriguez is a dummy for not picking up on this earlier.

--He predicted Michigan would start out 3-1 with this schedule but none of it matters until they prove in league play.

--Then capped all that deeply engrossing insight by announcing he wouldn't entertain calls from anyone who didn't share his equable view of the Michigan situation.

It was an astonishing 3 minutes of broadcasting.  I wasn't alive but I am willing to bet it was reminicent of a broadcast from like Mussolini back in 1930s Italy.

I think I burned my hand on the mouse clicking the online stream off, the guy was so bitter and acidic.  But it cleared my mind, not unlike a lobotomy.

The poster who said to steer clear of that mess of a station, stuck that one on all 4s.

No prob UQ, you know I got your back.

It is threads like this that sent  fine literary talent like CPS and Dex heading too the hills, and for that, I take full responsibility.

My litterary techniques can't be fully appreciated on this blog.

Hey! I was actually enjoying this thread! You tricked us here - I fully expected another thread complaining about some media dope ragging on Michigan, instead I got the opposite. Although not the best topic for a thread ("x media dope said y about Michigan"), it is a nice inversion of the norm!!

Foster was off today. If he had been there, things would have been much worse.

What I found really amusing is when he said that he doesn't like Rich Rod's offense. That his spread option will not work in the B10. That when Michigan faces off against teams with good defensive talent, like Ohio State and Penn State... Michigan will be dead. Which is why when he was at WVU, he had trouble with teams like Va Tech.

I wanted to call in and tell him,

"Hey genius, maybe now that he is at Michigan... and I will go real slow so that you can understand... He can now recruit nationally. I know that's a foreign concept to a State fan, so I will explain. You see there are places besides Southeastern here in Detroit... like Florida, Texas, and Louisiana. They have really good players... and guess what? Rich Rod can actually get some of them. So maybe, just maybe... he can recruit fast, athletic players to deal with these good defenses... the same ones that you have based your arguments on."

"Oh I almost forgot... some of these really good players, they will be recruited to play defense as well. In time, Michigan will have one of these really good defenses... the same type that frightens you so."

It's a pity they wouldn't have let me on. It would have been nice to hear him yell.

The thing I always try to remember is that dreamer MSU fan like that guy can't let go of this odd fantasy where Rodriguez will just turn us into MSU. So everytime we have a little growth spurt on the path like this week-end, there is always some reason that it is tainted.

As it becomes more clear that this is headed places way bigger than State level, and that the moment in time passed where we blew the whole thing up and started fresh with no dominance by State taking hold, Valenti goes ballistic and lashes out.

Anyone who buys the snarky OSU and MSU fan zinger about hoping Rich stay forever, is "on drugs". To quote our boy.
