Vincent Smith and Brandin Hawthorne's teammate was shot and killed early Saturday morning (9/27/08).

Holy shit, that sucks. I must say as crappy a person I may sound like, that when I read it wasn't them I did breathe a sigh of relief.

Pahokee apparently is a terrible area. Yes, there are ethical issues with giving kids scholarships just for athletic ability, but cases like these really make you hope that the opportunity to play football at a college really gives these kids a chance to get out of places like Pahokee and make a future for themselves, whether in the NFL or not.
