Our D-line next year could be incredible
We lose Patterson, Sagesse, and Banks. If Will Campbell is able to make a jump and Jibreel Black develops well, we will have a potential 4 man D-line of RVB, Campbell, Martin, Black. And if we have Craig Roh blitzing on that, it could really be a terror for the opponents O-line.

we might be happy or we might just continue to ignore the LB position entirely.
This of course, depends on if Big Will depends to stay low or stand up.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing watching the Indiana game. Black looked like he could really turn into a great player. Hopefully we use Roh more too. I am still optimistic anyway u look at it.

Don't forget about Kenny Wilkins (that is, if he stays at DL).

Richard Ash could be a breakout player as well. He was recruited by a lot of the big schools down south, but apparently had a weight issue, one year with Barwis and he should be cured of said issue.

And imo it all hinges on if Martin decides to stay another year or make the leap to the NFL. If he stay's, we look very, very solid upfront also if I might add I would like to see Roh put back on the line where I think he would excel quite a bit more at his natural position. Of course he would have to put on weight and someone would need to step up and take over the Spur.... Cam step on down!

with the impending lockout and also uncapped season, i highly doubt martin will leave for the nfl, i'll still knock on wood just in case though *knock* *knock*

I don't think he's going anywhere either but if he continues to dominate and is graded out as a 1st rounder by the end of the year, you would think he might seriously consider it.

martins not going anywhere. have you heard him talk about michigan? he plays football not so that he can make it to the pros, but rather for the block M and the wings on his helmet. he's the quintessential michigan man. he loves this school and this program way to much to leave without playing his senior year.

If, by virtue of an impending NFL lockout, we get another year from Mike Martin, that is some kinda cosmic justice, since "impending NFL lockout" was widely cited as the reason for Donovan Warren's terribly premature departure.

In a recent Daily article, Martin's parents pretty much categorically dismissed the possibility of him leaving.

campbell's problem isn't talent - it's desire to work year round.
October 7th, 2010 at 4:23 PM ^
I dont think it Campbell's problem is working year round, its simply comfort and timing i think. Have u watched WC on the goalline on offense?? He looks like a beast on offense, but on defense he kind of waits for the offense to come hit him first.
October 7th, 2010 at 4:38 PM ^
WC is still young i think he's gonna make some big leaps next year and maybe at the end of this years. Our D period will be pretty good. Secondary returns. We will be think at LB but i think we will be okay.
October 7th, 2010 at 5:09 PM ^
The defensive pieces are coming together and we should be steps ahead next year with the master plan.

If Campbell and Black are good enough to start then Gerg will probably convert RVB to a stand up LB to get keep the 3man line (and rush) intact.

yeah hopefully will campbell blossoms into the stud everyone thought that he would be. I think zettel would be a big help if we get(which we prolly will) if we have a good defense next year with an EXPLOSIVE offense...i honestly see us in a bcs bowl game next year!

I think we see 7 in the box alot this weekend...stop the run and blitz on passing downs...lots of new wrinkles on defense. My prediction is we'll see more surprises and new looks on the defensive side, and employ the slow death, long drive (UCONN) approach on offense..
