I thought he looked competent last year playing defense for the Knicks. That whole team, especially now without Chandler, was always going to have problems on defense. But compared to Melo and Smith, for example, Hardaway at least seemed like he was trying.

I don't recall him having those guns when he played for Michigan. Looks like he's hitting the weights hard.

If you can score in the NBA, defense really doesn't matter. Just look at Hardaway's star teammate. I've never liked Melo as a player because he sucks on the defensive end of the floor and, while he scores a lot of points, sometimes forces his shots, resulting in a field goal percentage much lower than you'd expect from someone putting up the amount of points he does.
