That's absolutely the best for Zumaya. Yeah, he'll miss the rest of the season, but that should NOT have any effect at all on his ability to pitch once it heals up.

Hopefully he can get through the frustration of another full year of rehab. I hope for his sake he doesn't try and come back and throw 102 anymore. I think for his career and his arm he might want to dial it down a few mph.

But how effective will he be is the question. He has an average second pitch at best right now. I wish the best for him though. Good luck Zoom!

Average third.

And he's developing a 4th.

He doesn't throw it often, but he throws a very very good change. Then he's got a good slider working now, and he was throwing a curve that really had some nice movement on it. He needs to develop it, but if he does, he'll still have a mid 90's fastball at worst and a good selection of other pitches.

I was under the impression he was developing the slider to replace the curve that he has trouble controlling. I'll take your word on the changeup but like you said he barely uses it. Wouldn't you think he would feature it a lot more if it was that good? A pitcher with his velocity could be devastating with a plus changeup.

Sad - he is one of my favorite Tigers...I hope he comes back healthy, but how many times can you come back from season ending surgery in a career?

That is very surprising, only a fractured bone. That looked tendon snapping-ly bad. Agree with a poster above, that is absolutely great news for Zoom Zoom. Let the bone heal, rehab, and get back to flame throwing.

Best of luck.

Maybe they need to try him out as a starter.  I guess I'm just thinking that needing to go 6-7 innings would help him stay under control and get away from these things that seem to be killing his health.  If I remember correctly, he was neck and neck with Verlander for the fifth starter spot going into the '06 season.

Probably the best case scenario for a season ending injury you can have for a pitcher, I definitly thought it was a tendon of ligament problem knowing his history. Hopefully he will have no problem working has way back to form considering what he has already been able to overcome.

Shitty because our bullpen just went from being a major strength to something we might need to trade for at the deadline.

Hopefully he can make it back next year without any complications.
