Funny, but I'm having a hard time getting to "RichRod ran Mallet out of town" from reading that article.

Related, somewhat: I spoke to one of my favorite (seriously ... good person) Sparty acquaintances at dinner last night about RichRod.  This person was genuinely curious about my take on the coaching situation.  Of note:

* He wondered why RichRod didn't try to keep Mallet.  (It was obviously assumed that no effort to that end was made.)

* He assumed that Justin Boren transferred because he didn't like the new culture.  The legacy scholarship not offered to Zach Boren (assuming all that is true) was complete news to him.

* He believes that Drew Sharp has been hard on Dantonio.

This guy gets his news from the MSM and the RCMB.

Zach Boren wasn't the big issue.  Justin Boren transferred primarily because he wasn't allowed to skip workouts to drive his father's snow plow in Ohio (seriously).

Then why did Mike Boren come out with an angry statement after Zach didn't receive the scholarship offer stating that he's not going to have his two sons going to two different schools? You are correct that Justin's desire to leave town to help his dad with the snow plow thing was a point of contention with the new staff, but Zach's situation was also a major issue as well.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I always got the sense watching Mallett on the sideline that people didn't like him.

Not sure I've ever seen a quarterback throw the ball harder, though.

That seemed to be the general feeling among many of the players in that they couldn't stand him.

I have a close friend who met Mallett at a couple practices in 07.  The exact words she used to describe him were "arrogant," and "obnoxious."

He was probably just young and full of himself.  I'm sure he's grown out of that by now.

It's rare that I remember a specific moment from a specific game, but I'll never forget watching that behemoth freshman QB jump up and down like a [very large] little kid at the Notre Dame game.

I remember hearing about him being homesick, and in this article his current coach says how much he's matured.  So whether or not he was obnoxious to others, from a far-away fan's perspective I'm glad I got to watch him when he was immature.  I'll still be rooting for him now (even more considering who he's playing).

One reason is that I've got relatives in Arkansas, but I also love the fact that Mallett still has a little hate for the Buckeyes. Ryan may have been an immature jerk while he was here, but he has never criticized RR in any public statement, when it would have been very easy to do so, and it would have garnered him lots of favorable publicity from the anti-RR crowd.

The contrast with the Borens—both Justin and both of his parents—could not be more dramatic by now.

talent is not the question. Despite his natural gifts, my impression is that he will always put himself before his fellow players and his team.

By definition, that is not Michigan. I can't think of a single player on the team today that could be described in the same manner. These Wolverines make me proud.

He will be successful, but I was not sad that he left.

ProFootballWeekly's Nolan Nawrocki has this to say about him (in an article posted on Yahoo Sports (at http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Alya6axIEKR6LJS3Ove0G_Y5nYcB?slug=pfw-20101213_locker_luck_headline_qb_class):

[He] has a cannon on his shoulder that allows him to fit the ball into very tight spots and move his team downfield in a hurry when he is hot. Yet, his ball placement has been sporadic, his feet are heavy and he has been unable to stay healthy this season as a stationary passer. His footwork is lazy, his accuracy wanes on the move and he makes too many ill-advised throws, coming from a Bobby Petrino offense that tends to mask the deficiencies of his QBs. More troubling than any physical traits, however, are concerns about his intangibles, makeup and character that bear too much resemblance to former Chargers first-round bust Ryan Leaf.
