OT: WTF is up with Texas?

Submitted by ldoublee on

Getting absolutely curb stomped by KANSAS STATE?  Looks like they have a real shot to finish up 5-7.  Looks like we might be able to add a couple games margin to our all-time wins record.

Their best play is "let the 6'4 pocket passer scramble."  There are some fantastic picture pages posts on Shaggybevo breaking down the epic fail that is their offensive scheme.  They probably honestly hate Greg Davis more than we hate GERG.

Michigan 22, Ohio State 0 in 1976, when I was ten. Leach was 0 for 6 with an interception.

I think they'd have had another two touchdowns if not for Leach's interception (which is in the Wolverine Historian video below) and what I remember as a fumble (which is not in the video). You can get away without being able to pass if you can rush for 366 yards and shut out the opponent.

Look at the stats.  Kansas State threw 4 times for 9 yards?!  Yet Texas still gives up 260 yards rushing... Also, Texas outgains KSU by 100 yards but Gilbert's FIVE picks give the game away.  FIVE?!?!?!?!?!?! Jesus Christ.

What happened to Texas going back to the old school, hard nosed running game?  They threw for 45 times today...

Could we possibly be matched up against them in a bowl game? I know it's very early but it would be great exposure with such storied programs and recruits would be watching.

The wealthy Longhorn alums would get a good look at our offense, fire Mack Brown and immediately offer Rich Rodriguez a new contract of $10 million a year for 10 years to be their new head coach.

Hey Mack.  Why don't you and Brian Kelly come on over and take a whirl on that infamous coaching hot seat we heard so much about around here lately.

Rich won't be needing it any more..

is that the all-time wins record pace at which texas was charging at us is slowed. we are +2 this year after being -9 in 2008 and -8 in 2009. They have 845 wins and we have 883. So I'm not sad we are putting some distance between them.

I'm in grad school down here at UT (Michigan alum for life obv) and it's very surreal.  If you told me before the season that Michigan would have a better record than Texas 9 games into the season i would have jumped on that bet in a heartbeat.

It's a very weird feeling being down in Austin with so few people caring about the season though.  Their anger seems to be directed at the offensive coordinator though - seems to be their play calling has been very vanilla and/or they're trying to fit Gilbert into McCoy's offense.

Also lack of a red zone offense has killed them.  In that UCLA game I think they had 6 points in their first four red zone trips, and it hasn't really changed this season.

...and Mack Brown is a very good recruiter.

The biggest problem that Texas has on offense is that they haven't been a very good running team in some time.  It's okay when you have a super-accurate passer (Colt McCoy) but even then he was their best running threat, which hurt them in the BCS "championship game" against Alabama last year.
